It's Early But Odds Show Chance for E. Carolina-USC Championship Game
The way it looks now, there might be more than the usual amount of unhappy college football fans when the computer spits out the two teams heading for the BCS championship game this year. This is the year when the BCS could get busted- big time.
I know it's early but EAST CAROLINA is on a roll. They've beaten two perrenial top 15 teams(Virginia Tech and West Virgina) and like a runaway freight train, nobody can stop them from going undefeated. They don't have a tough game left and they will be favored in every regular season game until they lose....I doubt that will happen.
SOUTHERN CAL, another team that will be favored to win every regular season game until they lose is probably the club with the best chance of getting into the final in Miami. USC couldn't ask for a better schedule this year. They play some very tough teams but they get Oregon, Arizona St, Cal and Ohio St all at home. They have to play UCLA on the road but they will be focused after losing to them on the road in 2006.
Who else will be favored in every regular season game until they lose?
SOUTH FLORIDA plays Kansas this week and the Bulls are favored by a couple. It's the toughest game on their schedule and a win would jump them way up the polls. Unless West Virginia does a one-eighty SOUTH FLORIDA has very clear sailing en route to an undefeated season.
Utah is the only other team that should be favored to win all their games. The only tough game left on their schedule is BYU and they play it at home. They already took care of business when they beat Michigan on the road.
I can't see any other team that can guarantee they will be favored in every game they play. You would think that FRESNO STATE is another but they are a two point dog to visiting Wisconsin this week. If they beat the Badgers then they become a real possibility to go undefeated if they can win @UCLA and @Boise.
The OKLAHOM Sooners....They look like they have a chance but will play Texas at a nuetral site, @ their nemisis Oklahoma State and if they make it to the conference final they will probably play Missouri.
MISSOURI has to play @Texas, Kansas and likely against Oklahoma in the championship game. They have a shot.
Forget about the SEC. FLORIDA and LSU have the best chances of going through the regular season without a loss. They play each other so that immediately cancels out one of them. FLORIDA also plays @Tennessee, @rival FSU and a possible conference championship game. LSU is @Auburn, @Florida and a possible championship game. The rest of the teams in the SEC have ridiculously tough schedules. If someone emerges from the SEC undefeated this year they are going to the BCS final but it looks like that is not a real good bet.
The darling of the ACC, WAKE FOREST, has to play @FSU, Clemson and a possible championship game. BYU plays UCLA, @TCU and @Utah. They barely beat a mediocre Washington team with the help of a horrible call. Rule them out!
After Ohio State most likely loses to USC they will still be the team to beat in the BIG TEN so it doesn't look like this conference will produce an undefeated team. Every team in the PAC TEN, which has three or four great teams, has to deal with USC and lovable BOISE STATE plays @Oregon and FRESNO STATE.
As it looks now, this is going to be the craziest year that the BCS has ever seen. Of course, as we all know, that could all change at any time.
