College Football Pick'em: The Ten Best Games of Week 3
Welcome back to another stirring rendition of College Football Pick’em: Ten Best Games of the Week. This week I am going to add a new feature (per a reader request). Score will be predicted along with the winners. Now these will be what I think, not what the listed line for the games are, as I am not a gambler and have no idea how those work. Also, I will be using the BR Top 25 rankings for the teams
For the first two weeks of the season, the record is 15-5, which is pretty good. I would like to personally thank East Carolina for getting me twice and Vanderbilt for getting a win that they would usually blow. There were an abundance of games that could have made it into the list this week, but I think the ten best won out. Without further fanfare, here are your Ten Best Game of Week 3:
No. 6 Ohio State at No. 1 Southern California: Winner-USC, 31-24. This stacks up to be the best game of the early going this year and it exceeds the billing. This will be close for most of the game but the Trojan’s speed will wear down the Buckeyes. *Game of the Week*
No. 18 South Florida at No. 15 Kansas: Winner-Kansas, 28-21. This game features one of the better early season quarterback matchups. SF’s Matt Grothe and KU’s Todd Reesing. Both will put on a show with Reesing and Kansas coming out on top.
No. 10 Wisconsin at No. 21 Fresno State: Winner-Fresno State, 20-17. Fresno’s road to be this season’s BCS Party Crasher must go through Big Ten roadblock, Wisconsin. This game will be nip and tuck the entire way with neither team really gaining an advantage. The Bulldogs win on a late field goal.
Nevada at No. 5 Missouri: Winner-Missouri, 48-30. This is another game that features high powered offenses. Mizzou is just too much for the Wolf Pack here.
No. 2 Georgia at South Carolina: Winner-Georgia, 30-17. If anyone knows how to beat Georgia, it’s Steve Spurrier. Not this time and especially coming off a loss to Vandy. The Dawgs are just too much here.
No. 25 UCLA at No. 19 BYU: Winner-BYU, 24-17. UCLA had a big win in their opener but won’t win this one. BYU gets up in the early going and doesn’t allow the Bruins to come back.
Stanford at TCU: Winner-Stanford, 17-10. An earlier start to this game has no effect on the outcome. Stanford runs the ball down the Horned Frog’s throats.
Michigan at Notre Dame: Winner-Michigan, 17-7. This used to be an early game that determined who played for the National Championship, not any more. Both teams are on a down trend, with ND being more so. The Irish defense turns out to be more inept than the Wolverine’s offense.
No. 16 Oregon at Purdue: Winner: Oregon, 35-24. Oregon starts out big and never looks back. Purdue is a good team but won’t be able to keep up with the Ducks.
Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech: Winner-Georgia Tech: 13-10. This game could go a long way in determining who wins the ACC’s Coastal Division. GT wins this game, but barely do so.
There you have it, your Ten Best Games of Week 3 in college football. Grab your favorite beverage and enjoy.
