Bills vs. Jets Quick Hits: What To Take From Buffalo Bills' Season Finale Loss

Chris TrapassoJan 3, 2011

I'll make this snappy, because for me the Buffalo Bills offseason has already begun.

They were totally dominated in all phases of the game on Sunday in their 38-7 loss to the New York Jets.

It was very hard to watch, no?

Anyhow, here's what to take from the beatdown from Sunday.

—To begin, let's not get too worried about this game. We knew the Bills weren't good and let's be real, the Jets second and third teamers beat the Bills second and third teamers.

If the Bills won, everyone would say the win meant nothing due to the lack of starters in the game.

—Brian Brohm is absolutely brutal. He proves that having a "big" arm can mean nothing if you are tentative and have no pocket presence.

—Levi Brown isn't much better, but we expected that.

—Kyle Williams is a stud, but he needs help.

—Does Terrence McGee still play for the Bills?

—The linebackers on this team have to be the worst in the league. Paul Posluszny's a good guy, but he makes no impact whatsoever and is living proof that the tackle stat is meaningless.

Akin Ayodele piled up a lot of tackles this year, but he too can't shed a block and makes all of his tackles at least seven yards downfield (same goes for Donte Whitner, too).

I'd put LB as the biggest priority this offseason.

—Steve Johnson had a few drops and that costly fumble in the game's opening drive, but I honestly think he's here to stay because of his size, route running ability and deceptive speed along with the fact that it looks like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chan Gailey have an affinity for the wideout.

The receiving corp is far from great, but with the undrafted guys making contributions this year and Roscoe Parrish as well as Marcus Easley returning from injury, the Bills just may be onto something with their pass catchers.

—John McCargo was only active for one game this year. Goodbye.

—With the signing of Merriman and Arthur Moats' upside, goodbye Aaron Maybin, right?

—Patience with CJ Spiller. He had an absolutely terrible rookie year, but give him time. He's too fast, quick and agile not to be productive in this league. Behind a better line and with more playing time next year, I'd be stunned if he didn't become a fan favorite.

I'll be getting right into the Bills offseason later this week. Stay tuned.
