2011 NFL Mock Draft: Top 15 Picks
Now that the season is over and the draft order is set, we now have a clearer picture of what the draft might look like this offseason.
Where will Luck fall? How many quarterbacks will go in the first round? How many quarterbacks will go in the top 20? Will any running backs go in the first round?
Let's check it out.
Carolina Panthers: Andrew Luck, Quarterback, Stanford
1 of 15
Why? The Carolina Panthers are a mess and even though I think Clausen needs another year and another chance under a new regime, he may not get it.
A report from ESPN states Carolina will take Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick if he does come out. I would not be surprised though if they pass on Luck and take the wide receiver A.J. Green here and sign a veteran to help groom Clausen.
Denver Broncos: Nick Fairley, Defensive Tackle, Auburn
2 of 15
Why? Okay lets be honest, the Broncos defense was terrible this year, but the good news is they found their quarterback of the future and their offense looks good.
I see them going defense here and taking the beast from Auburn, Nick Fairley. This guy plays like Ndamukong Suh and will bring an automatic spark to Denver's defense.
Buffalo Bills: A.J. Green, Wide Receiver, Georgia
3 of 15
Why? Buffalo was one of those teams that played better than what their record showed.
Many people have Buffalo drafting a quarterback here but I think Chan Gailey sticks with Ryan Fitzpatrick and drafts the second coming of Calvin Johnson by taking monster receiver A.J. Green.
Cincinnati Bengals: Patrick Peterson, Cornerback, LSU
4 of 15
Why? Cincinnati needs help everywhere.
With Marvin Lewis sticking around, I think they stick with Carson Palmer and get rid off Ochocinco instead. Even though they could go with a quarterback or A.J. Green here, they will go with the top corner ,Patrick Peterson, to help solidify that young defense.
Arizona Cardinals: Da'Quan Bowers, Defensive End, Clemson
5 of 15
Why? Arizona could go quarterback here but I think they go and snatch a veteran quarterback and stick with the young gunslinger in Skelton.
They instead will take defensive end Da'Quan Bowers here.
Cleveland Browns: Julio Jones, Wide Receiver, Alabama
6 of 15
Why? The Browns found their quarterback in Colt McCoy, now they need to find him some weapons and it starts with Julio Jones out of Alabama.
They could go with Mark Ingram here but we'll see.
San Francisco 49ers: Cam Newton, Quarterback, Auburn
7 of 15
Why? With a new GM and new coach, San Fran will take a long look at the top quarterbacks available and with players like Michael Vick and Tim Tebow taking the league by storm, I see the 49ers taking Cam Newton here over Mallet.
Tennessee Titans: Marcell Dareus, Defensive Tackle, Alabama
8 of 15
Why? Tennessee will be taking a long hard look at their quarterback options here but I think they go D-Tackle here to fill the void Albert Haynesworth left two seasons ago.
Dallas Cowboys: Prince Amukamara, Cornerback, Nebreska
9 of 15
Why? The Cowboys have a very average secondary and I think the addition of Amukamara will be an automatic upgrade for a team that needs a spark on defense.
Washington Redskins: Blaine Gabbert, Quarterback, Missouri
10 of 15
Why? The Shanahan/McNabb era in Washington didn't work out the way they would have liked and McNabb is on his way out, so I see the Redskins taking Gabbert here.
Houston Texans: Stephen Paea, Defensive Tackle, Oregon State
11 of 15
Why? It seems every year the Texans are at the door step to becoming a playoff team, but over and over again they find a way to lose out.
The Texans were dead last in defense this season, so again they go defense in the draft by taking Stephen Paea to bolster up their interior line.
Minnesota Vikings: Derrick Sherrod, Offensive Tackle, Mississippi State
12 of 15
Why? The Vikings could go quarterback but I think they trade or sign a veteran and groom Joe Webb.
The Vikings do need offensive line help and whatever quarterback they do get needs protection, so they get the best offensive tackle in the draft in Derek Sherrod.
Detroit Lions: Janoris Jenkins, Cornerback, Florida
13 of 15
Why? The Lions miss out on the Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara sweepstakes so instead they go with Janoris Jenkins from Florida.
St. Louis Rams: Justin Blackmon, Wide Receiver,
14 of 15
Why? The Rams found their man last year in Sam Bradford. Now they need find him some weapons and they start by getting Justin Blackmon from Oklahoma State.
Miami Dolphins: Ryan Mallet, Quarterback, Arkansas
15 of 15
Why? Miami's offense took a huge dropoff and it started at the quarterback position with Chad Henne at the helm.
Even if Tony Sparano stays, or a new coach comes in, they will look to take a quarterback here in Ryan Mallet.
