No need for panic Vikings fans. We came close.
Although the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Green Bay Packers last night 24-19, we showed progress.
Tarvaris Jackson wasn't completely awful he completed 16 of 35 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. So maybe those numbers aren't that great but he did it against a terrific Packers secondary. If Tarvaris wants to remain the starter he must work on his accuracy. Too many passes were too low or too high or too far. He has a strong arm and we all know that he just needs to find his target and get the ball there.
Adrian Peterson rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries. 19 carries isn't enough for our star running back. He needs to get between 25-30 if we want to continue to win games this season. Yes, we have Chester Taylor but he does not have the skills that Adrian possesses. 5.4 yards a carry is excellent and a number that A.P. Must maintain all year long.
Our 2 starting wide receivers caught 5 passes for 69 yards with Sidney Rice hauling in one touchdown. Back-up Tight End Garrett Mills also looked very impressive catching 3 passes for 49 yards. He is looking like he could become a potential starter if Visanthe Shiancoe doesn't pick it up like we expect him to.
Ryan Longwell nailed both of his field goals right down the pipes.
Antoine Winfield and Chad Greenway both had 8 tackles and looked mighty impressive. Our biggest disappointment besides losing the game was the fact that Jared Allen didn't manage to get one tackle or sack. We're paying you the big bucks, Jared got to step it up. Rookie second round pick Tyrell Johnson who replaced injured Free Safety Madieu Williams wracked up 2 tackles.
Overall it wasnt a badly played game by the Vikings but they must improve if they want to get the crown of NFC North Champions. Prevent long pass plays on the defense from being caught. Tarvaris will practice on accuracy I hope. Also penalties were a big problem. Learn how to not hold the defender so often and cut back on false start penalties.
The Vikings are at home next week as they face the 0-1 Indianapolis Colts who were rocked last week by the Chicago Bears. I see this game going down to the wire. Possibly a last second field goal by Ryan Longwell or Adam Vinatieri. Minnesota can play the best teams pretty tough and sometimes even win. For example defeating the super bowl champion Giants and AFC West champs the San Diego Chargers. Colts at Vikings is sure to be a good game. Look for Adrian Peterson to step up and have a great game.
