Maple Leafs Practice Update: Leafs In On Rolston?

Raihan HussainDec 29, 2010

The Maple Leafs took the ice today at Mastercard centre after losing to the Carolina Hurricanes yesterday night. Here is the latest:

Kadri Demoted:

Forward Nazem Kadri has officially been sent down to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Kadri recorded six assists in his time with the Leafs but was held scoreless. He played in 17 games but was a healthy scratch in three of the last four games. However, Kadri will not be able to play with the Marlies until he serves his two game suspension he received in a game with the Marlies against Adirondack.

Giguere Takes the Ice:

Jean-Sebastien Giguere took to the ice today for a brief skate for the first time ever since he suffered his third groin injury. It is still unclear when he will make a return, but the Leafs will take it slow.

Will the Leafs Claim Rolston?

The New Jersey Devils put forward Brian Rolston on re-entry waivers today. With a cap hit of around 2.5, I am told the Leafs will consider claiming him. However, they are not looking to add a player like Rolston right now. 2.5 is still a hefty buy considering the Leafs have just over $4 million in cap space and are looking to make something “big.” Eklund from hockeybuzz.com says that you shouldn’t expect the Leafs to claim Rolston, I totally agree with him.

Next Game:

The Maple Leafs will welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow in a game that can be watched on Leafs TV. They will hold a game day skate somewhere around 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. Until then....
