NFL Trade Rumors: 10 Likely Destinations For Donovan McNabb
Donovan McNabb may have recently signed a contract extension with the Washington Redskins, but it's becoming increasingly likely that he won't be wearing burgundy and gold in 2011.
Now that Mike Shanahan has benched him for Rex Grossman (take a minute and let that sink in), McNabb can't possibly be happy and will likely be looking for a new place to ply his trade.
I mean, seriously, he was benched for Rex Grossman.
As Chris Berman and his crew would say, "C'mon man!"
There are a few teams in dire need of a good quarterback and McNabb supposedly still has the talent to win games at that position.
Yahoo! Sports reported that McNabb will request a release at the end of the season, so read on to see where he could end up next year.
Washington Redskins
1 of 10
It seems unlikely right now, but there's a chance that McNabb may end up wearing a Redskins uniform again in 2011.
Even though he may ask for a release or be traded and it seems like the quarterback has worn out his welcome in Washington, McNabb has said that he'd love to remain in Washington.
If he decides not to ask for a release and the new head coach (sorry, I forgot that Mike Shanahan hasn't been fired yet) wants to keep him, McNabb could start once more.
It's not likely, but it's possible.
Miami Dolphins

When Chad Henne and Chad Pennington are your best options at quarterback, a former Pro Bowler like McNabb could be appealing.
A mobile quarterback like McNabb paired with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams could make for a great ground game.
I bet McNabb would love to throw to Brandon Marshall.
Arizona Cardinals

Would you rather have John Skelton, Derek Anderson or Donovan McNabb as the quarterback for your team?
Well, whatever your answer is, I bet you Larry Fitzgerald would vote for McNabb. Doesn't he deserve someone that can get him the ball?
This may be the most likely destination of all for McNabb because the Cardinals won't be in position to take an elite quarterback in the 2011 NFL Draft.
And no one wants to see Fitzgerald tortured any more.
Carolina Panthers
4 of 10
It's safe to say that the Carolina Panthers' experiment with Jimmy Clausen has been a disaster. They can't honestly expect Matt Moore to be much better.
With the No. 1 pick in the draft locked up, the Panthers could be looking at Andrew Luck. But they should have learned from this year.
Even if they draft Luck they should give him time to develop, preferably with a veteran quarterback showing him the ropes.
Just look at the beard. Donovan McNabb is clearly a veteran.
San Francisco 49ers
5 of 10
49ers fans are desperate for a quarterback that doesn't have that ever-so-common last name of Smith.
They've had to deal with Alex and Troy. Fortunately, Donovan's last name isn't Smith. It's McNabb.
However, now that Mike Singletary has been fired there's a chance that the new head coach may want to draft a young quarterback and build his time in San Francisco around that player.
It's not too likely, but McNabb could be moving all the way across the country over the offseason.
Minnesota Vikings

Brett Favre has said that it's doubtful he'll return in the 2011 season. I have no idea how to translate that out of Favre language and into a statement that is useful, but he did say it.
It seems as though Minnesota never wants to give Tavaris Jackson or Joe Webb a chance, so why not keep them buried on the depth chart and bring in Donovan McNabb?
I think he'd look pretty good in purple. He'd love to play with Adrian Peterson.
Tennessee Titans
7 of 10
Vince Young has run out of chances with the Tennessee Titans.
Kerry Collins has too many gray hairs to be taken seriously as an NFL quarterback for much longer.
And Rusty Smith....well, he's Rusty Smith.
I'm sure Jeff Fisher and the Titans brass would love to finally have a good quarterback wearing a Titans jersey. Donovan McNabb, assuming he returns to form of course, could be that guy.
Oakland Raiders
8 of 10
The Raiders are finally enjoying a little bit of success, but it hasn't been due to quarterback play. They've bounced in between Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski, although it appears Campbell has a stranglehold on the job right now.
McNabb could come in and give the team the ability to pick up third downs when there's a lot of yardage to be gained. They're too dependent on the running game right now.
Plus, Donovan McNabb is an athletic quarterback and we know that Al Davis loves him some athletes.
Backup On a Good Team
9 of 10
Good NFL teams love to have good backup quarterbacks in case something happens to an established starter.
If McNabb can't find a spot as a starter, there's a chance that he could end up holding a clipboard and backing up someone like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.
He'd need to swallow his ego, but his skills may have declined to a point that it's the only thing he can do.
Just to be clear, I do not think this will happen. But it could so it's worth mentioning.
Retired
10 of 10
There are two ways this could happen.
One is that McNabb realizes on his own that his playing days are over. That's unlikely.
The second option is that no team is willing to trade for him or pick him up if he's released and he's forced into retirement. That's unlikely as well, but significantly more likely than the first option.
Chances are we'll still see McNabb in the NFL.
But where remains to be seen.
