Donovan McNabb: Odds for Where He Plays Next Year
Donovan McNabb could be job hunting soon. Washington coaches Mike and Kyle Shanahan have made it clear that McNabb is not the QB they're looking for to run the Redskins offense.
While Shanny squared has been questionable in the way they've handled the situation, it isn't a surprise they want a new quarterback. McNabb's passer rating isn't in the top 25 this season, and he has struggled against the blitz.
With the recent actions, Bodog has released their opening odds for what McNabb will be doing next year (used in this slide show).
We still don't know whether McNabb will be a free agent or moved through a trade, though, which will have a major impact on where he will go.
When Washington and McNabb agreed to a five-year, $70 million extension there was an interesting caveat included. If the Skins cut or trade McNabb after the 2010 season, they will only owe him $3.75 million.
You can read the full contract details here, but basically they built the contract with a one-year warranty in place.
If you were a betting man, where would you place your money on McNabb's next destination?

Washington Redskins: 7/1
1 of 7
Why He Could
We've seen crazier things happen. Mike Shanahan has said he would welcome McNabb back as a backup. Would he be backing up Jake Locker or Rex Grossman—or both—is the question.
Why He Couldn't
McNabb has a lot of pride, and the Shanahans have done him wrong this season. Washington seems like it has been a failed experiment, and neither party seems like they want to take the time to fix the relationship.
Minnesota Vikings: 5/2
2 of 7
Why He Could
The Vikings are built to win now, but they need a QB. With an elite RB and very talented receivers, McNabb could jump in and pickup where Favre left off—last year. This would be the ideal landing spot for McNabb.
Why He Couldn't
If Washington is dead set on a trade, there will be some serious negotiations. McNabb did just sign a healthy contract that Minnesota would have to work into their payroll. If McNabb is waived, there should be few barriers to completing the deal, but does he want to follow in Favre's footsteps?
Arizona Cardinals: 4/1
3 of 7
Why He Could
If you believe in stats, you know Arizona has been one of the two worst-quarterbacked teams in the NFL this season. Being teamed up with Larry Fitzgerald has to be enticing to McNabb, who calls Arizona his off-season home.
Why He Couldn't
Although he's only completing 45 percent of his passes, John Skelton is 2-1 as a starter, so he's got that going for him. It is questionable whether McNabb would want to leave the East Coast limelight for the Phoenix media market.
San Francisco 49ers: 15/2
4 of 7
Why He Could
Two No. 1 picks and a Heisman Trophy winner hasn't equaled success in San Francisco. Although the loss of Frank Gore hurts, the team is still built well enough to win the NFC West in 2011 with an improvement under center.
Why He Couldn't
The Niners are cheap. They want to win, but if they're not willing to pay for a win-now QB, they will never win the division. We also don't know how keen McNabb is on west-coastin'.
Starter on Any Other Team: 3/2
5 of 7
Why He Could
Tennessee, Seattle, Cincinnati, Buffalo and Miami may all be looking to make a change at quarterback this offseason. While Bodog hasn't yet released the odds for these teams, McNabb would offer all of them an upgrade. Seattle, Miami and Tennessee could all make the playoffs with him. If Randy Moss stays in Tennessee, along with Kenny Britt and CJ2K, it would be a very attractive offense to join.
Why He Couldn't
If you don't have a supporting cast for McNabb to enhance, it will just be Washington, part deux. Bringing in McNabb would be a serious shift for any franchise, and ownership might view him as more of a liability than an asset. If McNabb is a free agent, he might want more prime-time treatment than these other franchises can offer.
Backup on Any Team: 7/2
6 of 7
Why He Could
If McNabb were to join a Super Bowl contender like the Jets or Cowboys (think 2011), he might be OK starting the season as the No. 2. We've seen numerous QBs go down with injury or get benched this season, and if McNabb could get a chance to shine, he knows he could steal the job.
Why He Couldn't
Few teams have a QB good enough that they could bench McNabb. If they do have one, they won't want to pay big money for a backup. Also, I highly doubt McNabb is ready to make that transition at this point in his career.
Not in the NFL: 15/1
7 of 7
Why He Could
We've seen players throw their hands up and quit. We've seen players get blackballed out of the league. In today's sports world anything is possible, which is why Bodog puts odds on it.
Why He Couldn't
With some of the talent taking snaps right now in the NFL, if nobody grabs McNabb, it will mean teams just aren't trying to win. I would see him taking a backup-with-a-chance-to-start role before hanging up his cleats.
