What Should Be On Each NFL Team's Christmas List
It's that time of year, when a frost chills the air and when children dream of the treasures waiting for them underneath the tree.
Suffice to say, kids aren't the only ones who have Christmas lists. NFL teams do too, and they have a very specific idea of what they want this holiday season. Maybe it's help on the edge, perhaps a skilled quarterback. For some teams, they just want this season to be over.
Whatever it is, here's every NFL team's Wish List.
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Quarterback
We all knew Kurt Warner was a good quarterback, but who knew his retirement would turn the Cardinals back into, well, the Cardinals? The offense has disappeared, and the Cardinals will miss the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Every quarterback the Cardinals have tried has failed, including Matt Leinart.
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 32
No. 1 Wish: No. 1 seed in the NFC
We all know by now that the Falcons are a pretty good team and might be the best team in the league. But at home on the fast track and inside the friendly, climate-controllled confines of the Georgia Dome, the Falcons are darn near unbeatable. If the Falcons end up with the top seed in the NFC, that means a first-round bye and home field in the playoffs.
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 32
No. 1 Wish: The Real Anquan Boldin
The Ravens are a Super Bowl contender and a very dangerous team in the AFC. But if the Ravens want to make a run towards Dallas, then the Anquan Boldin who was a Pro Bowl player in Arizona needs to show up. Baltimore isn't a pass-heavy team, but a dangerous Boldin would be another weapon to try and defend.
Buffalo Bills
4 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Luck
It's something the Bills haven't had a lot of in their history, and it hasn't rung true more than this season. Three overtime losses, each one more excruciating than the other. The Bills have let at least three wins slip through their fingers this season. But if there's something to take from 2010, Ryan Fitzpatrick seems like the real deal at quarterback.
Carolina Panthers
5 of 32
No. 1 Wish: No. 1 pick
It's pretty much a given at this point that the Panthers will be cleaning house after this season. John Fox will be gone at least, and possibly others as well. The only good thing that can come of this in Carolina is the No. 1 overall pick and a chance to draft Andrew Luck.
Chicago Bears
6 of 32
No. 1 Wish: An Offensive Line
Jay Cutler hasn't been taking as much of a beating as he had earlier in the season, but he hasn't been living the Life of Riley in the pocket either. The Bears aren't getting a lot of love in the NFC, but getting an offensive line to protect Cutler and open up holes for Matt Forte would go a long way towards getting some respect.
Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 32
No. 1 Wish: The Final Gun
The Bengals' season has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. The offense has been ineffective and the defense has been porous. In all, the best thing that could happen to the Bengals now is that the season just ends, they put it behind them, and move on to next season.
Cleveland Browns
8 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A No. 2 Wide Receiver
There's legitimate hope in Cleveland. Colt McCoy has shown to be a player and Peyton Hillis has been a beast in the backfield. But in order to continue the upward trend, McCoy needs more weapons. A young wide receiver to go along with Mohamed Massaquoi and Chansi Stuckey would be a great fit for the emerging Browns.
Dallas Cowboys
9 of 32
No. 1 Wish: The Return of the Defense
Remember what we heard about the Cowboys being the first host team to play in a Super Bowl and all the expectations? Well that's all over with now. The Cowboys defense has been a big part of that, with the lack of a pass rush exposing a porous and poor-tackling secondary. Any chances of contending next year for Dallas will hinge on how the defense rebounds.
Denver Broncos
10 of 32
No. 1 Wish: The Maturation of Tim Tebow
Tebow's play in his first ever start last week wasn't phenomenal, but it was encouraging. It's been an extremely disappointing season and the Broncos made a big investment in Tebow by drafting him in the first round. If Tebow can continue to develop as a quarterback, Broncos fans can at least take some good out of this season.
Detroit Lions
11 of 32
No. 1 Wish: New Uniforms
The Lions could've easily had a couple more wins than they already have this season. They've been extremely competitive most of the season. But I can't take another week looking at those jerseys. The black outline just doesn't go at all. They need to go back to the old blue and silver jerseys of the Barry Sanders days, or even the throwback Thanksgiving jerseys.
Green Bay Packers
12 of 32
No. 1 Wish: The Andy Reid/Les Miles Manual of Clock Management
Two straight weeks, the Packers were driving down the field down with a chance to get the game-winning score in the final seconds. Each week, the Packers horrendously mismanaged the clock and lost on the road. Granted, it was with an inexperienced quarterback each time, but the coach still has to have a handle on how to manage the game.
Houston Texans
13 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Anything Resembling a Secondary
The Texans defense has been bad this year, but the lack of a pass rush has severely exposed the secondary—the same secondary that's been burned time and time again this season. Obviously, it's a young secondary and the hope is that it will mature, but it doesn't excuse the fact that it was historically bad.
Indianapolis Colts
14 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Clean Bill of Health
The Colts have been stricken with a number of injuries that have crippled the team, including another season-ending injury to Bob Sanders. With Austin Collie suffering another concussion, the Colts could use some good injury news, especially considering the Colts could win yet another AFC South title.
Jacksonville Jaguars
15 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Sell-Out
The Jaguars have a huge game against Washington in their last home game of the season, and it's perhaps the biggest home game the Jaguars have played in years. The last thing the Jaguars need, especially with Los Angeles and other cities hovering for a franchise, is the game to be blacked-out locally because they can't sell out the stadium.
Kansas City Chiefs
16 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Skill Players
The Chiefs have defied the experts to make it this far, closing in on a division title. With the season they've had, anything from this point is gravy. However, help on the edges would be a nice addition. How about some help for either Dwayne Bowe on the receiver end, or a shutdown corner to supplement an aggressive defense?
Miami Dolphins
17 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Find Themselves
What made Miami successful under this current regime was the two-headed monster at running back—Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. But too many times this year, the Dolphins tried to force the passing game with Chad Henne. If Miami wants to be a contender, they have to go back to running the ball.
Minnesota Vikings
18 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Roof, Be Gone
The amazing video of the Metrodome roof caving in like something out of a Roland Emmerich film proved again that the bubbled Metrodome (or Mall of America Field now) roof is outdated and past its prime. The days of the solid or inflatable domed stadium is over, and Minnesota should embrace this as a chance to return to its roots.
New England Patriots
19 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Defensive Help
The Patriots are steamrolling again in the AFC, thanks to Tom Brady and another rag-tag cast of characters. But if the Patriots want to see themselves decked out with another ring, the defense will have to step up. It's been better in recent weeks, but it's not the caliber that Bill Belichick's used to. If the defense doesn't do its part, then the Patriots' dreams might be visions of grandeur.
New Orleans Saints
20 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Another Parade on Bourbon Street
The Saints might very well be the most dangerous wild-card team this season. They might not be as good as they were last season, but that offense is getting healthy and hard to stop. Even as a wild card, a win against Atlanta would put the rest of the league on notice.
New York Giants
21 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A New Coach
Tom Coughlin isn't the only reason why the Giants collapsed last week against the Eagles. He doesn't play defense, he doesn't punt and he's not on special teams coverage. But the mental breakdowns that happened last week have to fall on somebody, and as the head coach, he's ultimately responsible.
New York Jets
22 of 32
No. 1 Wish: An Offense
I could've gone down the Rex Ryan foot-gate path, but that's the least of their problems. The Jets are now all of a sudden fighting for their playoff lives and have fallen into a wild-card spot. It would help if the offense would show up again and take some pressure off the defense, especially since it had a long drought before last week.
Oakland Raiders
23 of 32
No. 1 Wish: One More Win
The Raiders are 7-7 entering the last two games and still alive in the AFC West. In the longstanding tradition of Raider football, it might not fall under an unforgettable season. But considering the recent history of the Raiders, it's a big accomplishment. One more win would give the Raiders their first non-losing season since 2002.
Philadelphia Eagles
24 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Lombardi Trophy
It's no secret that the Eagles are a pretty good team. But every Eagle fan still sees the Super Bowl at the end of every season, and with the offense Philadelphia has, the expectations are rising once again. No one really knew about this team at the beginning of the year, but now it's pretty clear it's Dallas or bust for the Eagles.
Pittsburgh Steelers
25 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Healthy Big Ben
The Steelers are a pretty complete team, but if they want to have a real chance, they need a healthy Big Ben. They are a different team when he's on his game, and he gives them a different look than Charlie Batch. They can survive in the regular season with Batch, but Roethlisberger needs to be the guy in the playoffs.
San Diego Chargers
26 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Running Game
The Chargers are still somehow alive in the AFC West, and they've been doing it without a real running game. Ryan Mathews has been hampered by injuries all year, and Mike Tolbert has been good but not great. San Diego's running game has been better of late, but it needs to be better if the Chargers want to be an elite team again.
San Francisco 49ers
27 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Better Headsets
Supposedly during the disastrous Week 1 loss to San Francisco, there was a problem with the headset inside the helmet of quarterback Alex Smith and the 49ers weren't getting the plays in on time. Of course, it was a minor thing, but it seemed to set the tone for the entire season where the offense seemed out of sync.
Seattle Seahawks
28 of 32
No. 1 Wish: One More Win
Seattle is tied with St. Louis for the NFC West lead...at 6-8. The Seahawks are underdogs heading into Tampa, as the Rams are also underdogs in their game. With that in mind, the showdown between Seattle and St. Louis in Week 17 could very well be for the NFC West title. The Seahawks still have a lot of say in the division's fate.
St. Louis Rams
29 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Division Title
It's hard to call a 6-8 team overachievers. But when they've come as far as the Rams have in one season, then the moniker fits. If the season ended today, the Rams would be the NFC West Champions and host a home game in the postseason. The Rams still control their own destiny and a win against Seattle would finish off the division.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Monte Kiffin
Kiffin won't be heading back to the city that made him a star coordinator anytime soon, but the Buccaneers would like someone of that ilk who can put the bite back in the defense. How far the defense has to come is still evident by the way Maurice Morris ran on the Bucs last week.
Tennessee Titans
31 of 32
No. 1 Wish: A Mediator
There used to be such warm feelings between Jeff Fisher and Vince Young, like there should be between a coach and his franchise quarterback. Where did it all go wrong? Maybe it was the injuries, maybe it was Fisher pulling Young from the game, maybe it was Young walking out on Fisher after a loss. Who really knows for sure.
Washington Redskins
32 of 32
No. 1 Wish: Cardiovascular Endurance
It seems to be that if you want to play for Mike Shanahan's Redskins, you must be physically fit. Albert Haynesworth learned that the hard way in training camp. And no one is immune, not even Donovan McNabb, who was pulled from a game for that reason. Apparently Shanahan saw McNabb at the end of that Super Bowl and made up his mind.
