Fantasy Football Week 16: 10 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Keys For Playoff Victory
Fantasy Football Week 16 is finally upon us. The Super Sunday of the Fantasy season.
It's Playoffs and/or Championship Week in fantasy seasons, and players are looking for those last minute finds or plays that can either advance them further or win them the championship, and all the spoils that follow.
So whether you're battling for your own version of the 'Dre or some other trophy that you can hold over your friends and competitors for the next few months, or looking for one last victory to close out the season well, here are 10 keys for playoff victories.
Tim Tebow, QB, Denver
1 of 10
Week 16: vs. HOU
The Tim Tebow era finally started in Denver last week, and with somewhat flying colors as well. The numbers weren't outstanding, but two touchdowns are pretty solid against one of the better defenses in the league. Now Tebow will get his first home start against one of the worst defenses in the league, especially against the pass.
Verdict: Start Him.
There are worse starting options out there, especially in two quarterback leagues.
Rex Grossman, QB, Washington
2 of 10
Week 16: @JAX
Grossman is such a tough call. He's able to pull off a big game, like he had last week at Dallas. He can also produce giveaways in bunches, like he did last week at Dallas. In all, it was the most explosive the Redskins' air attack had been all year, and Grossman is probably the better option for Washington. The Redskins now get the Jaguars, trying to stay alive in the AFC South.
Verdict: Start Him.
He's a high-risk, high-reward play. There's no changing that.
Maurice Morris, RB, Detroit
3 of 10
Week 16: @MIA
Maurice Morris has given the lifeless Detroit running game at least a little pop in the last week, putting up a touchdown last week against Tampa Bay. But the Buccaneers' defense is not as good as Miami's defense, and one would think he'd be limited this week. The health of Jahvid Best will be a factor as well, because then the pair might share carries.
Verdict: Start Him.
Probably a nice play, but sit him if you have better options.
Drew Stanton, QB, Detroit
4 of 10
Week 16: @MIA
Stanton played pretty well since he's been put into the starting lineup, especially considering the Lions have won two games since he stepped in. Then again, Shaun Hill has apparently been looming and taking snaps with the first-team offense this week. So it's definitely a interesting situation to watch, especially since the Miami secondary isn't bad.
Verdict: Sit Him.
Be careful and watch this one to see whether he or Hill starts on Sunday.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota
5 of 10
Week 16: @PHI
Peterson missed Monday Night's game with a bruised thigh and was limited in practice Thursday. But he's come out and said that there's no chance of him shutting it down for the last two games and that he wants to play the last two games. With Joe Webb possibly starting at quarterback, the Vikings might have to lean heavily on Peterson to have a chance.
Verdict: Start Him.
Might not be a bad idea to pick up Toby Gerhart either, though.
Arian Foster, RB, Houston
6 of 10
Week 16: @DEN
Foster was pretty much a non-factor last week, especially after the Titans jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter. But Foster has been able to exploit weak defenses this year when given the opportunity and has been a strong play all year. Facing the Broncos' defense shouldn't change anything, especially since it's expected to be a shootout.
Verdict: Start Him.
Just set it and forget it.
Anquan Boldin, WR, Baltimore
7 of 10
Week 16: @CLE
Boldin has been such a frustrating player because he's been non-existent in a fantasy sense for much of the season. He's done nothing for weeks on end, and then undoubtedly, the week you bench him is the week he has a touchdown. Owners have kept throwing him out there and fantasy rankers keep ranking him high, but it hasn't materialized.
Verdict: Sit Him.
You shouldn't buy into the hype with him anymore this season.
Joe Webb, QB, Minnesota
8 of 10
Week 16: @PHI
Webb is a risky pick, especially considering the status of Brett Favre is still somehow up in the air for this week. The Eagles defense is not as stout as it was a few years ago, but it's still a tough matchup because of the pressure and the aggressive nature of the defensive backs. So to expect Webb to put up huge numbers in his first ever start would be ridiculous.
Verdict: Sit Him.
Only start him if there are no other options.
Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco
9 of 10
Week 16: @STL
Davis, like Boldin, has had a volatile type of year. He's all over the field one week, non-existent the next. Of course, a big part of that can be accredited to the changing quarterback situation and the problems the offense has had. He's playing St. Louis this week with his team still very much alive in the NFC West, so expect him to at least get a lot of looks.
Verdict: Start Him.
They'll at least look his way a lot in the biggest game of the year.
Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego
10 of 10
Week 16: @CIN
The Bengals have had an extremely disappointing season, but the defense still has the ability to have a good game. Mathews was labeled a fantasy stud as a rookie but has had a rough rookie year. But a big part of that has been because of injuries and the emergence of Mike Tolbert. The Chargers are facing a must-win game, and the running game has been inconsistent at best.
Verdict: Sit Him.
Expect Philip Rivers to throw the ball in the Chargers' biggest game of the year.
