Carmelo Anthony: New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets and 10 Possible Trade Outcomes
What will it take for Carmelo Anthony to finally be dealt after months of rumors?
1) He must want to go to that team.
2) The Nuggets must get a young talent in return.
3) The Nuggets must get cap relief.
Once all three of those things occur, Denver will pull the trigger.
Thanks to ESPN's trade machine, here are 10 legal trades that could ship Carmelo out of Colorado:
Three-way trades have not been included as they're impossible to predict, the same with draft picks.
**Only players and teams that have been linked to Anthony are included unless stated otherwise.**
10. Oklahoma City Thunder
1 of 10
Nuggets Get:
James Harden
Jeff Green
Nenad Kristic
Thunder Get:
Carmelo Anthony
The Thunder haven't been linked to Denver in trade talks, but they definitely have the pieces to get a deal done. James Harden's name has been coming up in trade rumors lately.
9. Portland Trailblazers
2 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Rudy Fernandez
Nicholas Batum
Joel Przybilla
Andre Miller
Trailblazers Get:
Carmelo Anthony
Anthony has already said he doesn't have any interest in Portland, but just in case he has a change of heart:
Fernandez and Batum are two young pieces to the puzzle that is the Nuggets' future, and expiring contracts in Przybilla (oddest spelling last name ever?) and Miller give them cap room for next summer.
8. Chicago Bulls
3 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Luol Deng
Ronnie Brewer
Taj Gibson
Bulls Get:
Carmelo Anthony
The Nuggets may get three sold players here, but none have any kind of All-Star future.
Denver really wanted Joakim Noah to be part of any deal, but the Bulls refused. That will probably put a hold on trade talks until a team gives in.
7. Los Angeles Clippers
4 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Chris Kaman
Eric Gordan
Al-Farouq Aminu
Clippers Get:
Carmelo Anthony
This is by far the best deal for the Nuggets.
They get two future outstanding players in Gordan and Aminu and an All-Star in Chris Kaman.
Too bad Carmelo said he doesn't want to be a Clipper. He must have not seen Blake Griffin lately.
6. Memphis Grizzlies
5 of 10
Nuggets Get:
O.J. Mayo
Zach Randolph
Grizzlies Get:
Carmelo Anthony
Al Harrington
The Grizzlies haven't been linked to Carmelo rumors that much, but this deal is solid.
O.J. Mayo isn't even close to his peak and is already a great scorer. Randolph is starting to get up there in age at 29-years old, but he just had the best year of his career last season.
Memphis probably isn't the place Carmelo would want to land though.
5. Dallas Mavericks
6 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Rodrigue Beaubois
Caron Butler
Tyson Chandler
DeShawn Stevenson
Mavericks Get:
Carmelo Anthony
Nene Hilario
Al Harrington
I honestly don't see the hype with the Mavericks. They really can't give the Nuggets any huge talent that will be a big part of their future.
Beaubois? The Nuggets could easily get better than that.
Even when a trade is thrown together where the Nuggets get Beaubois and as much cap relief as possible, it still doesn't look that attractive.
4. Orlando Magic
7 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Jason Richardson
Daniel Orton
Earl Clark
Magic Get:
Carmelo Anthony
The Nuggets would be getting two young players, though very unproven, that have good potential.
Jason Richardson is an expiring contract as well.
Obviously this isn't too impressive for the Nuggets either, but maybe it's just my trade making ability.
3. Los Angeles Lakers
8 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Andrew Bynum
Lakers Get:
Carmelo Anthony
There are other multi-player options the Lakers could present, but this is the only trade that makes any kind of sense for the Nuggets.
If the Lakers do indeed want Carmelo, they would probably be willing to give up Ron Artest in the trade as well. That would also open the door for the Nuggets to get rid of Al Harrington.
Why would the Nuggets want an aging Artest who carries a four year contract? They wouldn't.
2. New York Knicks
9 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Anthony Randolph
Danillo Gallinari
Landry Fields
Eddy Curry
Knicks Get:
Carmelo Anthony
Whoever thought Eddy Curry would actually help the Knicks become a championship contender?
The Nuggets probably don't get the future star they're looking for in this deal, but they get three young, talented players who can make an impact right away.
They also add cap space by acquiring Eddy Curry's expiring deal.
1. New Jersey Nets
10 of 10
Nuggets Get:
Derrick Favors
Troy Murphy
Kris Humphries
Nets Get:
Carmelo Anthony
Al Harrington
In this trade, the Nuggets accomplish each of their goals: One, get a building block in return, and two, shed cap.
Derrick Favors has the potential to be an All-Star in the league for a long time.
The Nuggets get cap relief by trading away Harrington and picking up Humphries' and Murphy's expiring contracts.
