Kellen Moore: How Could Las Vegas Bowl Performance Affect NFL Draft Stock?

Chris TrapassoDec 22, 2010

Kellen Moore is 37-2 as the starting quarterback for the Boise State Broncos.

He's thrown 72 touchdowns to only 13 interceptions over his last two years and it's not inconceivable that he reaches the astronomical number of 100 touchdown tosses through three years after tonight's MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.

However, even with that résumé Moore is widely considered a mid-to-late round prospect for this year's NFL Draft.

Even if Moore heads back to Boise for his final year of eligibility and puts up even better statistics, his draft stock won't improve much.

Scouts point to his six-foot stature and "puny" arm as his most glaring weaknesses.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion on Moore, and many doubt him, but I know three things; Moore wins nearly every time he steps on the field, throws a ton of touchdowns and rarely tosses an interception.

Sounds good to me.

All Moore can do in his draft audition is continue a historic college career, and tonight's Las Vegas Bowl is center stage.

Utah doesn't have the scariest defense in the country, but with another strong showing in another big win, Moore can possibly start to sway scouts and general managers that his winning ways are something they musn't ignore.

He could also use this bowl game as a springboard to a monster senior season, if Moore doesn't declare for this year's draft.

Barring a catastrophic injury or unforeseen drop in production, Moore will get drafted, and there's a few teams that could use his services as an accurate, poised game-managing quarterback that certainly knows how to win.

It's hard to tell what team's quarterback situations will be next year. If he's not initially a franchise guy, his football IQ makes him a definite possibility to start after a few years in the league.

Teams like the Cowboys, Giants, Colts and even the Saints have fine quarterback scenarios right now, but could be starting to look for a future investment after next year and might call Moore's number.

If he enters the draft this season, obvious teams like the Panthers, Redskins and Cardinals need as much quarterback competition as they can get.

I like him fitting in with an offensive-minded coach who's willing to tone down the offensive system and mold it around Moore's strength.

The Chargers, Cowboys and Colts would all be great situations for Moore and I can envision him potentially succeeding on those teams (All guesses, remember.)

It's going to be tough for the overlooked Moore, but his journey to the NFL could become a bit easier tonight if he delivers another one of his signature stat sheet-filling performances.
