Terrell Owens and Randy Moss: Odds They Land on Each Team in 2011
Terrell Owens and Randy Moss have been through the whirlwind this season. For T.O., it was the dynamic duo in Cincinnati, the TV show and the season-ending injury.
For Randy Moss, it was the transfer between the New England Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans.
Both of them are coming close to the end of their careers, but both have expressed interest in continuing to play next year.
Let's give some early odds, then, on where these two will end up next year, shall we?
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The problem in Arizona has nothing to do with receiving talent. With Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston and a few good young prospects, the last thing the Cardinals need is to pay a couple million dollars to a guy that they really don't need.
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 32
Randy Moss: .0001%
Terrell Owens: .000001%
See that guy up there? That's Roddy White. He and Tony Gonzales make up a good majority of the Atlanta Falcons passing game, which has found a pretty good amount of success.
There is a small, small chance that they look at Randy Moss, but I highly doubt it.
As for T.O., it's hard to imagine a team like Atlanta going after an ego like Owens, no matter how great he continues to be.
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 32
Randy Moss: 10%
Terrell Owens: 20%
Despite the fact that the Ravens spent a lot of time and compensation on bringing in T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Anquan Boldin, they have still had some difficulty getting their passing game going, which makes it conceivable that they would trade out Houshmandzadeh (or another receiver) for Moss or TO.
T.O. gets the nod here as the bigger contender for his production and lack of serious behavioral problems.
Buffalo Bills
4 of 32
Randy Moss: 10%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The Bills seem to be figuring out their receiving corps slowly but surely. They could use a veteran presence like Randy Moss, though.
As for Terrell Owens, well, they tried that already.
Carolina Panthers
5 of 32
Randy Moss: 30%
Terrell Owens: 40%
With Steve Smith possibly out the door at the end of this season, the Panthers are going to be looking for talented veterans that can help revive their impotent offense.
I place a little less value on Randy Moss here because the Panthers don't quite seem desperate enough to take that kind of a chance. T.O. will likely be available, and he has proven that he can come into a new team and make an immediate impact.
Chicago Bears
6 of 32
Randy Moss: 5%
Terrell Owens: 5%
The Chicago Bears may not have much star power with their receivers, but Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett make up a pretty good combination.
There's always a chance that they could pick one of the two up, should the price be right, but it isn't likely.
Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 32
Randy Moss: 10-15%
Terrell Owens: 5%
Sources have indicated that the Bengals don't particularly want to bring back Terrell Owens, but it's hard to totally believe that when he has been their leading receiver this season.
If they do decide to part ways with him, though, Randy Moss could be a decent replacement.
There is a strong chance, though, that the Bengals don't pick up either. They still have Chad Ochocinco and stand out rookies Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham, so they really shouldn't need either of the two.
Cleveland Browns
8 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
Let's put it this way: if Mike Holmgren wanted either of these two on his team, they would already be on it. Holmgren is attempting to build his dream team, and it's hard to believe that Holmgren sees either of these two as a part of the team's future.
Dallas Cowboys
9 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
If they do make this move, it will be a sad day for Dallas.
First off, the Cowboys drafted Dez Bryant in the first round last year. So there's that.
Then, there's the fact that they have so many other needs that they have to address. There's no reason to spend money on players that they don't need.
Denver Broncos
10 of 32
Randy Moss: 15%
Terrell Owens: 20%
Sure, they have Brandon Lloyd, but the Broncos have developed a reputation for bringing in old guys to fill out their team, so what is there to say that they wouldn't consider T.O. or Randy Moss?
Detroit Lions
11 of 32
Randy Moss: 10%
Terrell Owens: 10%
The Detroit Lions have Calvin Johnson. They don't need anyone else.
Sure, it would be cool for them to bring on T.O. or Randy Moss to create a dynamic-duo sort of thing, but it probably won't happen. The Lions have other things they need to worry about.
Green Bay Packers
12 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
Unless the Packers want to add more old guys to their roster, it's not going to happen. Their passing game is right where they want it to be, and throwing a wrench into the mix might end up doing more harm than good.
Houston Texans
13 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The Texans have Andre Johnson. Why would you need anything else?
Matt Schaub is having a great year. The Texans have no reason to start adding new ingredients to their offense. What they need to do is work on their defense.
Indianapolis Colts
14 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
As long as Peyton Manning is throwing the football, the Colts really don't care who is on the receiving end. Why bring in a high price player like Randy Moss or Terrell Owens when they can find someone for a couple hundred thousand dollars a year?
Jacksonville Jaguars
15 of 32
Randy Moss: 5%
Terrell Owens: 5%
The Jaguars could use a guy to set up next to Mike Sims-Walker, but they have other fish to fry right now. Bringing in an aging veteran just doesn't seem like a smart choice to me.
Kansas City Chiefs
16 of 32
Randy Moss: 15%
Terrell Owens: 5%
The Chiefs seem happy about where their passing game is at right now, with Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe performing admirably down the stretch.
Considering that Scott Pioli came from the Bill Belichick coaching tree, though, it wouldn't surprise me if he took a shot at Moss.
Miami Dolphins
17 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The Dolphins gave up a lot to get Brandon Marshall, and they are paying him a lot of money. There is no reason to believe why they would want to spend even more money to bring in a guy for one year who may take attention away from Marshall.
Minnesota Vikings
18 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 3%
I think the Minnesota Vikings are through with bringing in old guys after this year's dealings with Brett Favre.
That aside, with Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin around, the Vikings really don't need either of them.
Oh yeah, and they probably want to put as much distance between them and Randy Moss as is physically possible.
New England Patriots
19 of 32
Randy Moss: 60%
Terrell Owens: 5%
I'm calling this one right now: If Randy Moss ends up on a team next year, the New England Patriots will be that team.
Bill Belichick is a no-nonsense kind of guy, so there's still a good chance that Moss stays away from the Pats, but it's still a possibility.
As for Terrell Owens, Belichick won't take a guy with that kind of history.
New Orleans Saints
20 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
Much like in Indianapolis, as long as New Orleans has Drew Brees, they really don't need to pull receivers like Moss or Owens out of free agency.
New York Giants
21 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The Giants are covered as far as receivers go. If they were to bring on a player, it would be in a backup capacity, and neither Randy Moss nor Terrell Owens will accept that kind of role.
New York Jets
22 of 32
Randy Moss: 40%
Terrell Owens: 30%
The Jets seem to be ok with their passing game as it stands, but they could probably use another standout guy to plug in with Braylon Edwards or Chancey Stuckey.
I could also see them grabbing Randy Moss solely because they would love to use him against their arch-rivals, the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan has done it before.
Oakland Raiders
23 of 32
Randy Moss: 15%
Terrell Owens: 15%
The Raiders don't really need receivers right now, especially since they have drafted three in the last two years, but I wouldn't put it past Al Davis to jump on an opportunity like this, especially since Randy Moss was a Raider at one point in his career.
Philadelphia Eagles
24 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
You all know who Desean Jackson is, right?
With him around, it's not going to happen, plain and simple.
Pittsburgh Steelers
25 of 32
Randy Moss: 5%
Terrell Owens: 5%
There's always a chance that one of them would take the opportunity to play for a Super Bowl worthy team, but that's shaky ground.
The Steelers aren't going to have a starting spot open for either of them, so they'll likely stay away, but you never know.
San Diego Chargers
26 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 0%
The situation in San Diego is the same as in Indy and New Orleans: As long as Philip Rivers is under center, San Diego doesn't really care who is catching the ball.
Plus, this isn't really how A.J. Smith does business.
San Francisco 49ers
27 of 32
Randy Moss: 10%
Terrell Owens: 10%
It wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers blame their lack of passing success on their wide receivers. They shouldn't, but they could.
I'm going to stick with a no, but anything is possible.
Seattle Seahawks
28 of 32
Randy Moss: 30%
Terrell Owens: 30%
It wouldn't surprise me if Pete Carroll took a chance on one of these two. Despite drafting Golden Tate, he continues to lean on Mike Williams, who is making a semi-glorious return to the NFL after belly flopping in the first few years of his career.
Either of the two could easily replace Ben Obomanu while the Seahawks look for a permanent guy to set up on the other side of Williams.
St. Louis Rams
29 of 32
Randy Moss: 10%
Terrell Owens: 10%
I think the Rams would prefer to draft a wide receiver as they attempt to get younger on both sides of the ball, but having a veteran like Randy Moss or Terrell Owens to help out the young Sam Bradford could be a big help in the development of the Rams' franchise quarterback.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30 of 32
Randy Moss: 5%
Terrell Owens: 5%
With the emergence of Mike Williams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to have found what they need in their passing game.
There is always the possibility that Tampa Bay might want some veteran presence with their receivers, but there are probably other positions that they want to address.
Tennessee Titans
31 of 32
Randy Moss: 0%
Terrell Owens: 5%
Yeah, it would be a long shot to believe that Randy Moss will be back with the Titans next year. He just hasn't done enough for them, and they probably feel safe enough with Kenny Britt at the very least.
Washington Redskins
32 of 32
Randy Moss: 50%
Terrell Owens: 50%
If there is one thing that the Redskins have been meaning to target over the last year or two, it's a star wide receiver.
Neither of these guys will last long for them, but they can buy the Redskins time to find a guy that they are really psyched about.
