NFL Playoff Predictions: New York Giants and Final 8 Teams Out of the Playoffs

Jesse DorseyDec 21, 2010

One by one, teams have been picked off, starting with the Carolina Panthers in week 11 all the way up to the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs this week.

Through week 15, 12 teams have been eliminated, starting with the Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins, Texans, Dolphins and Cardinals.

Along with that, four teams, the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons have all clinched playoff spots.

That leaves 16 teams vying for the remaining eight playoff spots.

So, here are the eight teams that will end up falling short of the playoffs and end up going home this winter empty handed.

8. Tennessee Titans

Tennessee has one of the longest shots at grabbing a playoff spot at the end of this season.

In order for them to find themselves playing a playoff game in January, they'll have to win their final two games  and get help from both Jacksonville and Indianapolis, who would need to lose their final two games for the Titans to sneak in.

It is a bleak outlook indeed for Chris Johnson's boys.

7. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle has as good a chance as St. Louis to win the NFC West, just as San Francisco does.

If they win out they will win the division, as they would be the only team in the division left at 8-8, otherwise, things get weird.

If they lose this week, they'll have to hope that St. Louis beats San Francisco, so that they will have a chance to beat the Rams in week 17.

A win there would give them a division win with a 7-9 record.

Ugh.

6. Oakland Raiders

The Raiders put up a valiant effort this season, and even played some entertaining football along the way.

We can only hope that this trend continues because when they are a good team they always seem to be interesting to watch.

Unfortunately for this season, there is little chance left for them to win their division and no chance left for them to take a wild card spot, as they are sitting at 7-7.

They need a minimum of two losses from the Chiefs and one loss from the Chargers to go along with two wins of their own to win the division, a long shot at this point.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa bay has a good shot of grabbing the final wild card spot, but with their remaining schedule, it probably won't happen.

They need the Giants to play lousy football for two weeks (possible), to go along with two wins themselves, as nine wins likely won't garner a playoff spot.

They will need New York to lose to Green Bay this weekend and then Green Bay to go on and lose to the Bears next week, something that is not out of the realm of possibility.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars

I see Indianapolis beating Oakland this weekend and then strolling to a win over Tennessee in the final game of the regular season, ending Jacksonville's hopes of finally capturing a division crown.

They haven't won the AFC South since the divisions were realigned, and missed the playoffs in the past two seasons.

Unfortunately for them, they have had a great year, but will most likely come up just short of grabbing a playoff spot.

3. New York Giants

Call me crazy, but I see Green Bay coming away with a win in the New Medowlands this weekend.

New York is coming off a true gut-punch loss, with their astonishing collapse against Philadelphia and I see it effecting them more than they are letting on.

Meanwhile, Green Bay nearly beat the best team in football with a guy who has never seen relevant minutes in the NFL before.

If Aaron Rodgers played that game, they would have won.

They should have a sense of swagger going in and if Rodgers can play, which he should, then I see a dismal day in New York ahead.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

I'm putting my money behind the hot rollers in San Diego lucking out yet again to win the AFC West.

If Kansas City wins their final two games they are in the playoffs, but if they run into a loss, while the Chargers win out, they are done-zo.

The luckiest kids on the block, the San Diego Chargers, have two games left against Cincinnati and Denver. I say those are quite winnable games.

Meanwhile, Kansas City has to beat two non-pushovers in Tennessee and Oakland.

If they lose just one of those games, while San Diego wins out, they will end up with either a worse record against division opponents or conference opponents, giving the Chargers yet another end of the season comeback.

I will stick by my guns that the San Francisco 49ers will make the playoffs until they backfire on me.

They did what they needed to do by beating Seattle last week, now the niners control their own destiny.

San Francisco goes to St. Louis in a showdown this weekend that will give the winner the edge in the division, so long as Seattle doesn't beat Tampa Bay (not likely).

The 49ers will then have a cake walk at home against the Cardinals to wrap up the division, sending a 7-9 team to host a playoff game as the football gods look down in shame.
