NHL Fight Videos: The Top 15 Beatdowns So Far This Season

Todd BoldizsarDec 21, 2010

You don't watch hockey for the tremendous amount of goals scored each game, but how can you not enjoy watching two guys drop gloves and exchange blows?

The 2010-11 season is in full swing in the NHL, pun intended. If you've been watching the NFL playoff picture unfold or the MLB Hot Stove and forgot about the NHL, you are missing out!

But Bleacher Report has got your back, no pun intended. If you like Sean Avery, George Parros or John Scott, keep reading.

Here are the NHL's Top 15 Beatdowns So Far This Season.

15. Toronto's Colton Orr Vs. Edmonton's Zack Stortini

1 of 15

This one was less than a week ago. Both Orr and Stortini get a few good blows in and apparently they had been jawing at each other all game. When Orr made a comment to Stortini during stop time before a face-off, the fight was on.

14. New York Rangers' Sean Avery Vs. Nashville's Jordin Tootoo

2 of 15

Despite his ballerina-like name, Jordin Tootoo gets the better of resident NHL bad-mamajama Sean Avery. This fight is short, but the larger Tootoo drops Avery quickly, which I'm sure pleases a lot of his haters.

13. Buffalo's Derek Dorsett Vs. Columbus' Patrick Kaleta

3 of 15

This one isn't your classic "Tug on the jersey and exchange a few missed punches." These guys really go at it and exchange several blows that find their mark.

12. Pittsburgh's Tyler Kennedy Vs. New York Rangers' Sean Avery

4 of 15

This one is short but sweet. Kennedy should have known better than to mess with Sean Avery. The guy's already got a screw loose, so it would be hard to cause him any more mental harm. Avery drops Kennedy quickly with a right cross and just dominates.

11. Washington's Alexander Ovechkin Vs. New York Rangers' Brandon Dubinsky

5 of 15

Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin looks like he's out to prove he is more than just a goal scorer. However, cheap shots are not the best way to show you are tough. Watch him low-blow the Rangers skater with a blatant hip check as Ovechkin's opponent tries to skate by him. When the fight begins, there is no wasted time.

10. Anaheim's George Parros Vs. Dallas' Nicklas Grossman

6 of 15

This scrap is awesome. I love the Anaheim commentators saying they love watching the fight as they chuckle to the replay of Parros swinging a haymaker and taking both of them to the ice.

9. Anaheim's Sheldon Brookbank Vs. New York Islander's Trevor Gillies

7 of 15

Trevor Gillies gets the best of Brookbank in this one. Gillies' teammate Martin checked Brookbank into the boards with a legal hit, but the Ducks' skater felt it was uncalled for. Gillies comes over to help, and ends up dominating.

8. Boston's David Krejci Vs. Montreal's Michael Cammalleri

8 of 15

This fight starts out slow, but keep an eye on Krejci as he plants a right hook on Cammalleri with enough force to knock his helmet off. A few more shots get in on both sides before officials come in to break it up.

7. Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby Vs. Dallas' Matt Niskanen

9 of 15

Everyone was a bit stunned in early November when young Pittsburgh Penguins phenom Sidney Crosby attacked the Dallas Stars' Matt Niskanen following a face-off. What was even more surprising was the resulting fight. Crosby actually held his own in an all-out fist-throwing affair.

6. New York Rangers' Derek Boogaard Vs. New York Islanders' Trevor Gillies

10 of 15

This is probably the slowest moving fight of the year. Both combatants take forever to begin exchanging blows. However, once it gets going, Boogaard gets the best of Trevor Gillies.

5. St. Louis' Cam Janssen Vs. Chicago's John Scott

11 of 15

What is Cam Janssen thinking taking on John Scott? Scott clearly outsizes Janssen and gets the better of him here. As soon as the two tango, it's pretty clear Janssen should have let this one go.

4. New York Rangers' Sean Avery Vs. Edmonton's Lanislav Smid, Plus Others

12 of 15

These two teams certainly let it be known they hate each other. After this fight melee in November, the teams would meet up again for more brawling in December. In this video, NHL bad boy Sean Avery attacks the Oilers' Ladislav Smid before the commercial break. The station had to come back early because the fight was still going on, now with a different set of players multiple times.

3. Toronto's Jay Rosehill Vs. Pittsburgh's Eric Godard

13 of 15

Even the announcers know Jay Rosehill shouldn't be in this fight. He went after winger Sidney Crosby and Eric Godard stepped in and eventually dropped him. Rosehill's face hit the ice, and he would require stitches to close him back up.

2. Anaheim's George Parros Vs. San Jose's Frazer McLaren

14 of 15

This rivalry between teams is only exceeded by the rivalry between George Parros and Frazer McLaren. The match seems even, although I feel a little cheated with the absence of Parros' trademark mustache.

1. Chicago's John Scott Vs. Los Angeles' Kevin Westgarth

15 of 15

John Scott outsizes yet another opponent, and makes Westgarth bleed as he lands punch after punch. They would both getting penalties for fighting, but Westgarth got the worst of it.
