NHL Trade Rumors: Latest On Martin Brodeur, Jarome Iginla and More
NHL Rumors continue to circulate as the Trade Deadline gets closer.
In the last few weeks, the talk around some of the bigger names like Brad Richards and Jarome Iginla has cooled a little bit, especially since the Western Conference is so tightly packed. But the name that's still lingering, if only in a hypothetical sense, is Martin Brodeur.
It all started with a column by Larry Brooks in the New York Post, who suggested that the Devils should think about Brodeur. It was quickly dismissed, but as the season has gone on and continued to sink for the Devils, the idea still lingered. So much so that Yahoo! blogger Greg Wyshinski even addressed the speculation.
I agree with a lot of the mainstream hockey media that there is no way Brodeur would be traded. But it's interesting to think about and it perhaps might not be a bad idea for the Devils' brass to at least listen.
Here's the latest on some of the other players who could be available.
Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey

I'll start by saying this: New Jersey hasn't asked for Brodeur to waive his no-trade clause and he hasn't asked for one either. It's very doubtful he would be moved. But despite having some of the worst numbers of his career, there are still a lot of teams who would be willing to acquire him. For the Lightning, he would be a major improvement over what they have right now.
Niclas Bergfors, RW, Atlanta

The young winger was one of the main pieces Atlanta got from New Jersey in return for Ilya Kovalchuk. But with the Thrashers rolling in the Southeast, Bergfors has been forced to the bench as a healthy scratch. And now as such, the Thrashers have made it known that Bergfors can be had and is available. With that being the case, look for teams who want a young winger with scoring ability to try and acquire him, possibly St. Louis or Phoenix.
Jarome Iginla, RW, Calgary

The trade talks about Iginla have quieted down as of late, especially since no one is really out of it in the West. As bad as the Flames have been at times this season, they're still within striking distance of the No. 8 spot, as is Minnesota and Edmonton. With that in mind, anyone in the West won't become sellers until the very last few days before the trade deadline. So expect the Flames to hold on to Iginla as long as possible.
Tomas Vokoun, G, Florida

Last night's surprising 5-0 shutout of the Flyers not withstanding, the Panthers are still a team that needs scoring and probably won't be a playoff contender this year. With that in mind, it wouldn't be long until either the Panthers or Vokoun himself ask to waive his no-trade clause and the courting of possible teams begins. Tampa will be in on any goaltender available.
Evgeni Nabokov, G, FA
5 of 10
The KHL experiment for Nabokov is apparently over and Nabokov is back in North America, looking for work. His high price scared off a lot of teams in the summer, and it might scare off teams once again. That being said, there will be teams interested in him. Tampa Bay will definitely be looking hard at him, as Nabokov or anyone would be an upgrade over what the Lightning have now. The Capitals and Flyers have also been mentioned.
Francois Beauchemin, D, Toronto
6 of 10
Beauchemin looks like the most likely Maple Leaf to have a new address because of his playing style and his relatively low cap hit. There was a new rumor that supposedly the Kings would desire a player like Beauchemin because of his style to replace the injured Willie Mitchell. I wouldn't doubt that, nor would I doubt that he could land somewhere like San Jose or Anaheim as well.
Fedor Tyutin, D, Columbus
7 of 10
Tyutin is another relatively young player who has found a home in the press box as of late as a healthy scratch. As such, that led to the Columbus Dispatch reporting that the Rangers had inquired about reacquiring their former prospect. In relation, the Dispatch also reported that the Blue Jackets had called about scratched Ranger defenseman Michael Del Zotto. The report however, was quick to point out that these were only calls at this point.
Michael Leighton, G, Philadelphia
8 of 10
Leighton was a Stanley Cup goaltender a few months, now he's No. 3 on the depth chart behind Sergei Bobrovsky and Brian Boucher in Philadelphia. The Flyers would like to keep him around, especially with Bobrovsky struggling of late and the injuries they suffered in goal last year. But he's also taking up cap room, so the Flyers might listen to offers.
Daniel Carcillo, LW, Philadelphia
9 of 10
Carcillo might be a more likely candidate to move from the Flyers. Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reported Sunday that the Flyers would like to move Carcillo for some cap space. Carcillo has a relatively small salary, but also has a history. He will either be tougher to move and/or the Flyers will not get as much in return for him. The report also mentioned the Flyers talking about moving Nik Zherdev or James vanRiemsdyk, so make of it what you will.
Kevin Bieksa, D, Vancouver
10 of 10
Bieksa's name continues to circulate in trade rumors, and his status seems to change by the week. Supposedly, the Senators are interested. But of course, it will all depend on the injuries on Vancouver's blue line. If Sami Salo comes back and if the rest of the unit stays healthy, then Bieksa will probably move.
