College Football Fanatic's Top 25 (Week Two)
25. Clemson
After absolutely getting embarrassed by Alabama last week, 34-10, they came back and easily got past The Citadel, 45-17.
24. California
Yesterday, they just flat out killed Washington State, 66-3. After something like that, I had to put them in my Top 25.
23. West Virginia
That loss yesterday was a little bit more than embarrassing. West Virginia is a team that normally gets 30 or more points a game. Yesterday, they scored three points on East Carolina. Three. That's pathetic. If they were playing Georgia or USC or someone like that, then I could see that happening, maybe. But ECU? No.
22. Utah
They opened up the year with a good win over Michigan and solidly beat UNLV 42-21 yesterday.
21. Fresno State
Fresno had the week off and will play Wisconsin at home next Saturday.
20. South Florida
USF escaped yesterday with a 31-24 OT win over Central Florida.
19. Oregon
The Ducks set a school record yesterday with 688 offensive yards in a 66-24 win over Utah State.
18. Wake Forest
Wake Forest, the best team in the ACC in my opinion, barely escaped with a 30-28 win over Ole Miss.
17. Brigham Young
BYU slipped past upset-minded Washington 28-27 thanks to a controversial and very questionable excessive celebration penalty and a blocked PAT.
16. East Carolina
ECU, you're officially on the map. They dominated #8 West Virginia 24-3 and beat #17 Virginia Tech 27-22 in the opener. Their last three games have all been against Top 25 teams (#24 Boise State in the Hawaii Bowl last year) and they have won them all.
15. Penn State
Penn State proved that they will contend for the Big Ten title this year with a 45-14 rout of Oregon State.
14. Arizona State
ASU handled Stanford 41-17 yesterday to move to 2-0.
13. Kansas
The team with the fattest coach in America shut out Louisiana Tech 29-0.
12. Alabama
Alabama struggled at times against Tulane but still won 20-6.
11. Wisconsin
Wisconsin had troubles early against Marshall but ended up blowing them out 51-14.
10. Texas Tech
The most exciting team in football had trouble against Nevada but pulled away late for a 35-19 win.
9. Texas
Texas easily handled UTEP for a 42-13 win.
8. LSU
The Tigers were scheduled to play Troy but the game has been postponed to November 15th because of damage from Hurricane Gustav.
7. Auburn
Auburn got around the pesky Southern Miss team 27-13 Saturday.
6. Missouri
Missouri smacked around SE Missouri State, winning 52-3.
5. Florida
Florida had troubles for the first three quarters but pulled away late for a 26-3 win over Miami (FL).
4. Ohio State
Ohio State just plain sucked against Ohio on Saturday, but somehow avoided an upset, winning 26-14.
3. Oklahoma
Perhaps one of the best Oklahoma offenses ever helped destroy Cincinnati 52-26.
2. USC
USC had an off week and will play #5 Ohio State next week in one of the biggest games of the last 15 years.
1. Georgia
Georgia routed the Central Michigan Chippewas 56-17, doing a lot better than expected, and playing the best football out of the top five teams, which is why they're #1 this week.
