Bill Cowher: Who Would He Prefer, Miami Dolphins Or New York Giants?

Tom EdringtonDec 21, 2010

Bill Cowher is sitting out there with his cards held so very closely to his vest.

He's not ready to show his hand, but you know it's a good one.

The former coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers is sitting in the cat-bird seat, watching, listening and just maybe he's plotting his next move.

Miami fans are a bit upset with Tony Sparano.

New York fans are still reeling from the Meltdown In The New Meadowlands at the hands of Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and a misdirected New York punt.

Suppose that both teams decide to part ways with their respective head coaches. The owners know that Cowher is in play.

So which would he prefer?

Start with the quarterbacks—Eli Manning or Chad Henne?

Continue on to the respective divisions—NFC East or AFC East?

Which team is more playoff ready?

Which team needs a substantial number of new cogs in the wheel that is a 53-man roster?

The answer to the first three questions is without a doubt, the New York football Giants.

The fourth answer is, the Miami Dolphins.

Would Bill Cowher coach the New York football Giants?

Why wouldn't he?

Cowher is used to cold weather, grind-it-out, defensive football, oh say, like the brand they play in Pittsburgh, the brand that should be played in New York.

Would Cowher have made a difference Sunday in the Meadowlands?

Perhaps.

Now Miami is a totally different animal.

Is Chad Henne the quarterback who can lead his team to a division title over the likes of New England and the New York Jets?

For ANY coach looking at the Miami situation, that's the big missing piece of the puzzlea franchise quarterback or lack thereof.

But the fact remains that this week in the National Football League, there are no coaching vacancies in either New York or Miami.

Both owners know who's out there.

And you'd have to figure that if you're either Tom Coughlin or Tony Sparano, you know about that 800-pound gorilla somewhere in the corner.

Who would Cowher prefer?

It's certainly not a coin flip.
