WWE TLC Results: Edge Wins Four-Way Match, 10 Lessons Learned
Hello my Creatures of the Night. Now that the TLC event is over, I'm sure we can all agree that it was one of the WWE's best PPV's of 2010.
Almost every match including a violent stipulation, TLC was a step up from Survivor Series and Hell in a Cell. With the Royal Rumble weeks away, everyone is turning to see what's next for one man: Edge.
He's back! Last night, the Rated R Superstar regained the World Heavyweight Championship. For the 10th time in his illustrious career, Edge has gained the World Title.
Not only did Edge proved Alberto Del Rio fans wrong, he silenced any doubt about his status at the top Smackdown Superstar.
With Edge's predictable win tonight, there's a lot of questions surrounding it. What's next for the Big Red Machine? Now that Rey's injured, will Del Rio be the next challenger to the Rated R Superstar? Will Edge continue to carry the label as the a transitional Champion?
In due time, Creatures.
Despite all of that, Edge's victory at TLC taught us multiple things. I'll attempt to break down Edge's win and what it taught us.
Edge Stole The Show!
1 of 10
Besides John Morrison vs Sheamus, the fatal four way was the best match of the night.
Not a match featuring Daniel Bryan or Ziggler but a match highlighted by the Rated R Superstar stole the show. I know I've got a lot of Edgeheads who agree with me.
The last-minute changes were certainly for the best. I doubt it the match would've been this good had it been just Kane vs Edge. History has taught us this. Absolutely amazing stuff here by all four men.
Maybe we don't give Edge as much credit as he deserves. He's a great in-ring performer.
Edge Can Win a Title "Clean"
2 of 10
Before tonight, Edge had never won a World Title match without controversy. The Ultimate Opportunist is known for his sneaky but clever ways. Each time he's been World Champion their were other factors in the Superstars corner.
From Lita's interference to Vickie's power as a General Manager, The Rated R Superstar is indeed a manipulator. Edge has had help from La Familia, MITB, and cheap ring tactics in the past. But not tonight, not in his TLC match.
The use of weapons were legal and Edge didn't have any help. The Rated R Superstar speared his way to another World Championship tonight.
Clean.... Finally.
Edge Pulled Off The Biggest Turnaround of 2010
3 of 10
We all know 2010 hasn't been the best year for the Rated R Superstar. It's true that Edge returned in a big in 2010 with a Royal Rumble win. He was on a monster push heading into his WM match with Y2J. Everything turned around when he lost the match with Jericho.
Edge never seemed to regain his momentum. He soon turned heel afterwards. Ignited a feud with Randy Orton that he would ultimately lose. Losing multiple WWE Title matches. Getting involved in a pointless feud with the Anonymous RAW GM.
Things weren't looking to good for Edge. Until he got traded to Smackdown! that is. In his crusade to get rid of all things stupid, Edge seemed to regain his push. Besting Team RAW at Bragging Rights and defeating Del Rio and Mysterio to become No. 1 contender.
He kidnapped Paul Bearer to add a extra spin to the Kane storyline. Screwed out of the title at Survivor Series, only to win it all at TLC.
What a turnaround.
Paul Bearer Is Gone
4 of 10
We've all witnessed the humorous Paul Bearer/Kidnapping storyline. Edge teased hurting Bearer on multiple occasions. Most of the time they were dummies, just to get inside the head of Kane.
Bearer was absent at Survivor Series and Kane continued the pursuit of Edge and Bearer. Edge continued the dummy teases until Kane thought he had Edge figured out.
On a recent episode of Smackdown! Kane exiled Bearer on accident, pushing over a ladder with Bearer on top. Bearer appeared to be lifeless.
His absence at TLC proves that Bearer has once again departed WWE.
Edge Has Surpassed John Cena and Triple H
5 of 10
It's amazing, huh?
Now that one of the Greatest rivalries is over, it's fun to compare John Cena and Edge with their recent success. Not only has Edge beaten Cena on more occasions, his title win tonight has broken the tie he and Cena held with overall World Title reigns at nine.
Edge has also surpassed Triple H. Edge and Game were tied for most reigns as WHC at five. Edge's latest win makes him a six-time World Champion.
Even though, I expect the Champ to rack in another WWE Title reign in the near future. As for Edge, since a heel turn has been discussed we may see the return of the Ultimate Opportunist. None of us can imagine Edge retaining his World Title clean.
But you never know. It's WWE, remember...
A Feud With Christian Could Be In The Works.
6 of 10
Edge's longtime partner, Christian, is expected to make his return by the Royal Rumble. Assuming that Edge is still World Champion, if Christian were to win the RR, I would doubt it he would switch brands to face Cena or Orton.
By then Edge is bound to return to his heel status. Captain Charisma would surprise us all by entering the Rumble late and winning it all. Maybe Edge would remain face but would grow weary of Christian's title opportunity.
Like Smackdown vs RAW 2011's RTWM Storyline.
Everyone else seems to agree. Question is, will Vince get over his anti-TNA movement and give a deserving star his time at the top?
Edge And Kane Will Continue Their Feud
7 of 10
No Champion has lost their title and not received some sort of rematch. I don't think Kane will just forget what Edge has put him through in the last few months.
It's obviously made Kane more psychotic than he already was. The guy was laughing while his head was dripping blood, for God sakes.
Now that Bearer is out the way, Kane has no reason not to destroy Edge. Nothing can hold the Big Red Machine back now. I almost certain Kane will receive a rematch at The Royal Rumble.
This feud will intensify on the next edition of Smackdown! I fear what Kane has planned for the Rated R Superstar.
Del Rio and Mysterio's Feud Will Continue
8 of 10
A fair portion of the IWC predicted Del Rio to win tonight. Every occasion where Del Rio attempted to grab the World Title, Rey Mysterio thwarted it. Same for Mysterio. The foes mainly targeted one another instead of the obvious favorites to win.
Mysterio even caused Del Rio to take a nasty fall onto two tables. I'm positive that had Del Rio won the World Title, their feud would've ended. Kane would've been looking for a rematch while Edge would have pursued Del Rio for a title opportunity.
Question is, how long will this continue? Mysterio is injured but will not half to undergo surgery. Though Rey will take time to rehab the injury. Maybe Del Rio does the same thing he did to an injured Christian?
TLC Is Indeed Edge's Signature Match
9 of 10
Don't get me wrong here.
All four men put up a great effort, but the night belonged to Edge. The Superstar dominated the majority of the World Title match, even using stunts normally utilized by guys like Jeff Hardy or Rey Mysterio. Have you honestly ever seen Edge diving off a ladder onto another person before?
Edge added another win in the TLC match column. Edge has bested the Dudley's, Hardy's, Undertaker, and even Ric Flair. He's now added three more names to that illustrious list. It seemed as if Edge were down and out of this match tonight.
Edge was swift in his disposing of Kane, utilizing a table and ladder to his advantage.
Edge Will Be World Champion Going Into Wrestlemania
10 of 10
Is there any other option?
Now that Undertaker may not even participate in Mania, Del Rio isn't ready, Mysterio's injured, and Kane's completely out of the question who else will be World Champion? I honestly believe one way or another that Edge will face Christian at WM.
Besides that, Edge is a face now. He hasn't had decent run with the title. That's why he's established as a transitional Champion. Now that the Ultimate Opportunist gimmick is out the door, let's hope Edge can hold the title for at least four months.
The month-long title reigns aren't acceptable anymore. Edge is the top guy on Smackdown! now and his momentum can't be stopped. Let's hope the WWE allows Edge to headline Mania. Better yet, have him win a WM match.
If you haven't noticed, Edge hasn't won a match at Wrestlemania since defeating Mick Foley back in 2006.
