Virginia Tech vs. Stanford: New Orange Bowl Digs for the Maroon and Orange

The Virginia Tech Hokies have new helmets for this years Orange Bowl against the Stanford Cardinal. Orange Helmets,for the first time in Virginia Tech history, will be worn in the game paired with our white uniforms. Evidently they were voted on and chosen by the Virginia Tech captains.

What are your thoughts on these new helmets? I will hold my final assessment until I see the full uniform fully put together but my first impression is not a good one. I have always loved the all one color look.

Michael Vick in The All White Uniforms Of 1999

The 1999 National Championship game that Virginia Tech played against Florida State where Michael Vick and the Hokies wore the all white uniforms is a very memorable game and might be why the uniforms are some of my favorites. They would have been my all time favorite if they had all white helmets.

The all maroon uniforms that we wore during a home game against Miami in 2003 are simply the absolute meanest looking uniforms that any Hokies have ever worn. I'm a big fan of these.

The new Nike uniforms that we opened this season with met with mixed reviews. They are not one of my favorites at all. If you are black out the uniform then black it out Nike. Drop the stripes and the orange colored numbers. Go with maroon numbers, names and helmet logo and let the rest be jet black. That would look pretty cool.

Virginia Tech and Their All Orange Uniforms Didn't Bring Good Luck For Hokies

The all orange uniforms that we wore in an embarrassing loss to UVa haven’t been worn since but I liked them. Maybe pair them with these new orange helmets and we will have a winning combination.

I couldn't find a picture of these uniforms and maybe that's a good thing. Will Stewart of Techsideline.com (formerly HokieCentral.com) summed it up perfectly when he said "The Hokies looked like a bunch of tangerines on the field, and UVa proceeded to beat the pulp out of them." 

I still liked them.

Our fallback uniforms of maroon and white are always a classy combo.
