College Football Week Two Pops and Drops, the New Top 25

Paul PeszkoSep 6, 2008

The second week of the College Football season has just ended.  Here's a look at the teams that popped in the rankings and those that dropped.

POPS

In the top 10, Oklahoma with a convincing win over Cincinatti pops from No. 4 to No. 3, Texas pops from seventh to sixth, Missouri pops from No. 8 to No. 7, and Kansas pops from 13th to 10th after shutting out Louisiana Tech, 29-0.

In the second 10, Wisconsin pops from No. 15 to No. 11, previously unranked East Carolina pops into the No. 12 slot with its 24-3 upset thrashing of West Virginia, Oregon pops from 17th to 13th, Penn State from 21st to 15th, Arizona State from No. 20 to No. 17, and California pops into the No. 20 slot from No. 23.

In the Nos. 21-25 spots, we saw just one pop: Illinois bouncing back from its trouncing last week at the hands of Missouri to defeat Eastern Illinois, 47-21, and pop from No. 25 to No. 23.

DROPS

Oklahoma leapfrogged an idle LSU (its game with Troy was postponed), and the Tigers dropped one slot to No. 4.

Ohio State dropped from No. 6 to No. 8 with an unimpressive showing against Ohio University.

West Virginia dropped all the way from 10th out of the top 25 with its stunning defeat at the hands of underdog East Carolina.

BYU also dropped out of the rankings with its pitiful non-win against the hapless Washington Huskies, coached by the unluckiest man in the world.

Alabama dropped from 11th to 14th with its sluggish performance against Tulane.

Texas Tech dropped two spots from No. 14 to No. 16 while Utah dropped from 12th to 18th and South Florida from 18th to 21st.
