Does Manny Pacquiao Have Control Over Next Opponent?

Troy SparksDec 19, 2010

Manny Pacquiao's camp wants to control when their prizefighter will fight again.  They chose May 7, 2011.

I think that's enough time for the pound-for-pound fighter to rest.  Is that really what we want or what Manny wants?

Like it or not, Pacquiao beat the opponents who were put in front of him over the last several years, so why give him the time he needs to make up his mind?

When that date was set, I thought that it was a good date.  It appears that date is written in stone, but is that when Pacquiao will agree to fight?

Not only is the date confirmed, according to Bob Arum, Pacquiao's opponents are limited to three fighters.  It might make good financial sense to fight Shane Mosley.

What if Manny go outside the box?  Does anybody think about him fighting a lower-tiered opponent?

I think Andre Berto is a dangerous opponent because he's a little younger than Pacquiao and hungrier.  Juan Manuel Marquez don't deserve a third fight against the Pac Man.  He still feels that he's been shafted both times in their bouts.

Just when we thought Top Rank moved past considering Floyd Mayweather as Pacquiao's opponent, he's back in the picture now, if Mayweather can get past his legal troubles.

I haven't heard Pacquiao announce his next opponent yet.  Would he let boxing fans down if he walks away from boxing while he's on top?  Will you call Pac Man a chicken if he hangs up his gloves to serve the people he represents in his country?

We want a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight on that date.  Maybe Pacquiao is holding up hope that Floyd will come out of his cave and make this thing happen.  Other than that, what does Manny have to prove at this point?
