What would you do to improve the current state of pro wrestling?

Colin ClerkinSep 6, 2008

This is my first article/discussion on the Bleacher Report, and I truly do look forward to a worthwhile discussion that is not about bashing professional wrestling.

It is obvious that all the people that write on this website are huge fans of professional wrestling. We all want to view a product that is surprising, engaging and entertaining. A lot of what the internet has become over the past few years is a pit of negativity. This sucks...that sucks...he sucks...you suck...Unfortunately, people are out to bash without having a reason why something could or should be better. I really do not get it...

It does not have to be like that and it is not what I want this discussion to turn into. The purpose is to brainstorm and share ideas about what WE think would help improve the state of professional wrestling. We all have valid opinions and ideas. There is a reason that everybody in this country is allowed only one single vote in the election...because the nation is supposed to be all about equality. That is what I want this to be. If you cannot be thoughtful, civil and engaging, please save yourself some time and keep out of this discussion.

OK, enough said about that. On to a few of my ideas that I am just going to throw out quickly and see if anybody responds with their opinion on the issue...

1. Re-establish the tag team division for the longterm:

Over the past few years, a good percentage of the tag team champions were basically two single wrestlers thrown together for the sake of challenging for the title. I would love to see some longtime tag teams established and make some longtime feuds for the title. Additionally, the use of managers with tag teams has really decreased over the past decade. Young wrestlers that are not comfortable at the mic could really benefit from a "talking head" during interview segments.

2. Push the idea of a 24/7 wrestling channel:

The WWE video library has over 80,000 hours of footage. I know that if I were flipping through the channels and came across a random 1996 episode of Nitro that I would be hooked. The potential of that tape library really cannot be put into words, in my opinion. I also think that a 24/7 channel could be a good breaking ground for young wrestlers to work on their interview skills with small promos or segments during some sort of wrestling interview show. The options are limitless with a channel like this, in my opinion. I know I would be hooked immediately.

Those are just two of my personal ideas that I would love to see implemented ASAP. Feel free to criticize my ideas (but justify your responses!) and add your own. Let's brainstorm here and try to come up with some good ideas! Look forward to hearing your thoughts...
