Mike Shanahan's Ego Benches Donovan McNabb
The Redskins did the unthinkable. They benched Donovan McNabb for the incredible turnover machine Rex Grossman. Mike Shanahan has clearly lost his mind. He is so eager to prove that he has control over the team that he benched his best shot at winning.
Shanahan's ego has only helped to worsen things on a Redskins team that had a legitimate shot at finishing .500 before the season started. He took a defense that was pretty good and made it abysmal by switching them to a 3-4. He turned his best defensive player into an afterthought by publicly feuding with him. Now, he benches his best offensive player for a journeymen quarterback.
Shanahan won two Super Bowls in his career not because of his great coaching but because of players like John Elway and Terrell Davis. Once the "Mastermind" was given the keys to the franchise, he drove the Broncos into the ground. The good news for Shanahan is that the Redskins have been down for so long that no one will notice his boneheaded moves.
