Fantasy Football Week 15: Start David Garrard, Sit Jay Cutler and More
Week 14 featured a lot of horrible fantasy days from several key players.
For instance, two of my fantasy teams are now out of the playoffs because of Aaron Rodgers' concussion against the Detroit Lions.
Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Jay Cutler and Eli Manning also had days that probably cost a lot of fantasy owners.
But, for those of you who survived last week or are just now starting your fantasy playoffs, here's some advice that will hopefully help you make it one step closer to your league's championship game.
QBs: Start David Garrard
1 of 8
This weekend, the Jaguars play the Colts with the AFC South title on the line.
In Week 4, the Jaguars beat the Colts in Jacksonville, due largely to the performance of Garrard.
Garrard threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions while putting up 24 fantasy points.
With even more injuries to the Indy defense this time around, expect even better numbers from Garrard.
QBs: Sit Jay Cutler
2 of 8
Jay Cutler is not a cold-weather quarterback.
He played his worst game of the season last weekend in the snow against the New England Patriots, scoring only two fantasy points on the day.
This week, the Bears travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings on Monday Night Football.
Due to the collapse of the Metrodome, the game will most likely take place at the University of Minnesota's outdoor stadium.
Expect more of the same offensive ineptitude from the Bears this week.
RBs: Start LeGarrette Blount
3 of 8
Three of Blount's best four fantasy performances have come at home.
Expect that trend to continue this week against the Detroit Lions, the team with the 22nd-best run defense in the NFL.
The Bucs should try to establish the run early. They should also have a lead late in the game, which would allow Blount to grind out yards late in the fourth quarter.
RBs: Sit Cedric Benson
4 of 8
When the Bengals played the Browns earlier this season, Benson only managed six points. The Bengals lost that game 23-20.
Since then, the Bengals have lost 10 straight games and haven't been able to catch a break. Everything that can go wrong for the team has gone wrong.
Don't expect that to change this weekend, and don't expect Benson to finally get things going this season.
WRs: Start Hakeem Nicks
5 of 8
The Giants receiving corps is a mess right now.
In last week's win against the Vikings, they lost Steve Smith for the rest of the season, and Mario Manningham also left with an injury.
That leaves Nicks as the only semi-healthy receiver to whom Eli Manning feels comfortable throwing the ball.
Plus, even though Eagles' star cornerback Asante Samuel is expected to play, it will be his first game back from injury, so he may not be at full speed.
All of these things should provide a boost to Nicks' numbers this week.
WRs: Sit Deion Branch
6 of 8
The Patriots are going to demolish the Packers on Sunday night, but it's not going to be because of Deion Branch.
Branch will be matched up against Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams all night long, so don't expect a lot of production out of him.
Tom Brady will have to find other ways to beat Green Bay.
TEs: Start Aaron Hernandez
7 of 8
Enter Aaron Hernandez.
Hernandez will provide more matchup problems for the Packers' defense than Branch will.
Look for Tom Brady to lean heavily on his tight end tandem of Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski this weekend.
TEs: Sit Brent Celek
8 of 8
When the Eagles played the Giants earlier this season, Celek had zero catches for zero yards and zero touchdowns.
Celek has been a nonfactor all season, but he was completely invisible against New York.
Don't expect much to change this week, as the Giants will once again keep the Philadelphia tight end irrelevant.
