Dallas Cowboys Defeat Versus Philadelphia Eagles Falls Squarely on Jason Garrett

Freddy BlairDec 15, 2010

Many people just don't realize that athletes are a lot like paint colors and a coach is the artist. A coach takes the colors and puts them together in a way so that they make either a beautiful portrait or a sloppy mess.  Some paintings are just  “okay” and others are pretty good- but not quite at the level of a top artist.

That's what's been happening with the Cowboys.

One week everyone is blaming the safeties, the next week they are blaming the quarterback. The next week it's the entire defensive line and after that it's the crappy field goal kicker.

What some seem to want to ignore is that these players follow a GAME PLAN and that plan often dictates whether they are out of position to make a play that could have saved the game or are in position to make a play that makes the highlight reels and etches their names in NFL history.

Last Sunday night, one player beat the Cowboys. Yet, the team played great and almost won anyway.

But, it was the failure of the head coach, JASON GARRETT, to negate the big play ability of DeSean Jackson that cost his team the game. Plain and simple.

Four plays that could have, and should have, been prevented, gave the Eagles the victory.

But, so many fans are so intent on nominating Garrett as the savior of the Cowboys, they want to blame Mike Jenkins, Terrence Newman, Alan Ball or, on the line, they want to blame Jay Ratliff and Igor Olshansky.  But, the truth is that if Jason Garrett had assigned two defenders to DeSean Jackson instead of letting Newman and Jenkins get isolated and beat in one-on-one coverage while the safety covered the center of the field, the Cowboys would have won the game and the defense would have given up 200 less yards, and 21 to 28 points less.

You can deny it all you want, but when one player does what DeSean Jackson did last Sunday night, the blame falls squarely on the coaching staff.

1 player should never be able to defeat 22.

And that's the bottom line.
