However, Dockett's talents don't end on the field.
Now in his seventh year in the league, Dockett, who quiteย possibly could be the most humorous and playfulย guy in the league, has become extremelyย likableย and religiously followed by all NFL fans.
He's as ferocious as they come at his defensive tackle spot, but he never misses an opportunity to joke around.
He's on the same level as Chadย Ochocinco in terms of Twitter popularity, and if you like theย lighter side of sports,ย Dockett's your guy.
During his recent trip to Las Vegas, he sent out a myriad of tweets describing his experiences.
One read:
"OK OK, GOODNIGHT IM DONE! I just saw a midget stand on a chair and throw the dice on the crap table!!! Gooodnight I'm out BYE!"
If you're on Twitter, follow him, no matter who your team is. If you're not, join the social networking site just to get a run-down of Dockett's everyday life. (@ddockett)ย
He opens up and engages with his fans in a way that's only rivaled by the aforementioned Ochocinco.
Fans love that.
Remember, in the end, this game of football we love is just entertainment.
Even in today's sports world that's surrounded by instantly updating media, most athletes play it close to their uniforms, and maintain a god-like or better-than-you status.
Not Dockett.
He's earned all he's accomplished in the NFL and hasn't lost sight of the fact that outside of being a 6'4'', 290 lbs freak with outstanding athleticism, he's just like everybody else.
There's something about his down-to-earth persona that relates to the everyday fan.
He knows that playing in theย NFL is aย privilege, notย something that's owed to him.ย
If he's upset after a game, he'll let the media know. If he's ecstatic over a win, he'll make everyone fully aware.ย
But he'll always keep it hysterical.
He doesn't take anything too seriously and from an NFL player who comes to play each week, it's awfully refreshing.
Professional footballย could use more outspoken and cheerful guys like Darnett Dockett, NFL's funny-man.
