Just Keep It Real / I forgot that would'nt be ethical would it
Where do we begin, I used to be a kid, young man, child, or whatever you want to call it at the age when you have the desire to play youth sports.Mom (single), "please sign me up, I want play football", Moms says, "great, I know you will enjoy playing you are so good and I'm going to put you in the best program there is, but I don't know where the best program is". Here's where the trouble began. I am a kid, I don't know, she a girl(women) she don't know, who knows where to start? I want to play but I need to learn a lot of things, maybe everything so what now. We decide that we will go to the local park, I see kids playing baseball there so i guess they can help us."Wow" they do play football here, Mom can I,can I mom,Let me talk to the coaches and see what they can do to teach you,and see what it cost some questions I need answers too, some of her concerns.Questions she needs before she will let me play here
#1 Will he get proper training?
#2 Are the coaches properly trained and/or certified to teach the sport?
#3 Will he be taught the safety rules?
#4 Will he receive proper equipment and will the equipment be safe?
#5 Will he play with kids his own size, weight and age?
#6 Is this team about training and development or competition?
#7 Will he get a chance to play fairly?
#8 Do your organization have insurance?
#9 Have your coaches worked with kids before?
#10 How much does the program cost 375.00?
#11 Are there any hidden cost is this everything?
#12 How long is practice and how many games will he play?
Of course the answer to all my moms questions was a very enthusiastic yes, and we would never ask for any extra money,we been doing this a long time and we have a great reputation throughout the area.My mom a single parent so we have know way of making any adjustments on money, time ,travel and games schedule my mom has everything down to a second after all she's doing this for me. (thank you mom)
We started practice,I'm a 70lb very frail weakling I am supposed to be on the peewee team, that what they said when we signed up,But they don't have enough players sing up in my age group so in order for me to play I got to play up (older bigger kids) so they will have enough players to make a team.that will give our team 16 players, so now most everybody will have to play both ways(offense&defense) these kids are 90lbs and older,I'm scared to say the least,Not to worry coach says he gonna teach me everything I need to know to be the best and I'll be fine just be tough and do what he says. There's 3 other kids playing up with me also, not even big as i am (terrified). Now it's time to learn how to tackle, this will make me feel better just knowing what to do a little, i thought, until i watched no.37 who is smaller than me take off running from about 20yards away from big no.58 the boy in the middle,he's been playing a long time probably one of the best players on the team, coach said put your head down, point your helmet straight at the man you want to bring down and use your neck as a ram, run fast and hit him hard as you can, no. 37 he don't walk anymore, that wasn't right what coach said, when they were taken no.37 away in the ambulance his mom wanted to talk to the people in charge (board member)who signed her son up to play nobody was around. My mom wanted to get some answer's before we went any further. So a lot of parents got together right away to demand some answer's.they wanted to know why no.37 was told to tackle that way (that got him hurt real bad)what they discovered was a shock to us all.The coach wasn't a coach,he was just a parent who stepped in to help coach because the park couldn't find anyone to coach the team,he was just an accountant he never played or coach football in his life, he thought he was helping us out, not only was he not certified, the park told him just do whatever you want we have no intention of wasting our time training those kids,If the can't play already then they better have insurance. After all they just needed the extra money they collected from those little kids until some better bigger kids come along,They don't have enough equipment, uniforms nor insurance at the park, they are hoping to find games for the program, they didn't quite meet the requirement's necessary to be apart of a regular league, so basically nothing they stated was true, and we would have to stick it out with them as would many others, because it was 3 weeks into the preseason and now to late to play elsewhere, everybody was full, and many, many miles away and they don't do refunds,so mom was out her hard earned money, and if i wanted to play this was it.We had been hoodwinked (tricked) and what was worse, nobody but nobody governs these organizations, as longs as they form a association they pretty much do whatever they want, we called and called the county, city and even the better buss. association., like they said there is nothing they can do. Did I play football that year, yes i was on the team I never got in any games, not one, I also never got any training, as how to play the game, nor any position on the field, I was to scared of the bigger boys and too afraid of getting hurt, I just sat there, I played in the dirt at practice and ate a lot of junk food at the games, we played some pickup games, 6 games total,we didn't have enough uniforms so everybody couldn't suit up at the same time, it was horrible, I learn to hate football, my mom spent at least 250.00 more than we were told, it never got better. I took the time i spent trying to play football with a good organization 6yrs and a lot of moms money over 4500.00 getting an education about little league sports.Let me tell you some things I do know,Most all programs are designed to take your money, they don't provide anything that remotely resembles a true youth training & development program. what they will do is take your moms or dad's money tell you lies, put your kids at risk. also if you can't afford to play youth sports and you have good talent every program I've seen will ,yes will create a hardship for your child, so your child can help them win games, but if you are just an average kid or heaven help you you're below average and want to play and enjoy having fun. Nobody, not anybody connected to youth sports will assist you with funding, training or development of your child, it's not about that, it's about greed, it's full of crooks, thieves, lying, misrepresentations, deception and a whole lot of youthful tears. Makes you wonder why our young people don't trust or show respect to so many adults. I watched my mother sacrifice so much money, time, energy and sleep she couldn't afford to try and give me the best she could, so who going to report the truth to our parents and kids so we can have a reasonable chance at being good or just staying safe while we grow and learn and maybe just maybe have some fun. I'm just saying if your are not about anything, why not just "Keep it real" so we can go somewhere else, and put momma's money to good use. After all not everybody got money sitting around to just give to the local crook's association (youth sports), well I guess I'll go now, my wheelchair battery needs recharging now, I left it on while I was lost myself in memory nightmare called youth sports. But before I leave you, I did try baseball, basketball under the same umbrella (youth sports) in softball we had 300 kids enrolled, we thought we had found gold, but later in the season we found out through the TV news, the board president and several umpires where registered SEX offenders, but the association was collecting money for background checks but not doing any background checks, so they could keep the money WOW!. I am what you can call the greatest that could have been, but never will be, there's a lot of young people out there just like me. So i suggest we find a system to review the crooks I mean the youth programs, "sorry," to enable those that need it an opportunity to make an informed choice, we may save somebody plenty of money and, we just may create some new stars, I know we will certainly have whole lot less CRIPPLE KIDS, now won't that make some kid smile.
