Alexander Ovechkin and Washington Capitals Fantasy NHL's Week 11 Cold Players

Brandon GalvinDec 15, 2010

In the Week 6 edition, we saw an almost all-Washington Capitals special of the hot list.

This week, for the first time, the same Washington Capitals unfortunately make up the cold front.

Alexander Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green all failed to live up to their stock in the past week.

A New Jersey Devils superstar also froze up this week. Who continues to fail?

Note: Stats taken from December 6 to December 13.

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils Goalie

One of the best to ever do it, Brodeur is having an awful season for his standards, with a 4-12-1 record.

Brodeur lost twice this week and has not won a start since November 12.

In the two losses on December 10 and 11, he gave up a combined seven goals. He has a .865 save percentage.

It may be best to bench the Hall of Famer until he turns things around.

Green is having a rough week. He failed to score or record an assist and was minus-1 against Florida. Even worse, Green may miss time due to illness now, which means his fantasy owners may get nothing out of their superstar defenseman for the rest of the week.

Continuing with this Washington Capitals trend, Semin has done nothing this week. He has only taken six shots on goal and failed to score or record an assist. Even worse, he is minus-3 this week, doing far more harm than anything else for his fantasy owners.

Backstrom is usually atop the world, but this week he fell off. Backstrom failed to score on seven shot attempts. He only gave out one assist and the worst part is that he is minus-3 for the week. Backstrom rarely performs this poorly and will surely bounce back in no time.

Ovechkin has been on the cold front before, but is usually a mainstay on the heat rack. He failed to score in the past week, despite taking 12 shots on goal. He did tally an assist but is minus-1. The one thing we know for sure now that Ovechkin made the cold list is he’s going to bounce back with a vengeance quickly.
