NFL Power Rankings Week 15 WRs Edition: White and Lloyd Fight for Top Spot
The playoffs are almost upon us, and it’s now time for NFL offenses to start playing harder in order to get into the playoffs and gain position as the season winds down.
We are seeing some nice performances out of some of the better wide receivers in the NFL, and we could see some big numbers coming out of some of the next three weeks as teams try to win to make the playoffs.
The guys that are regulars on this poll, guys like Roddy White, Brandon Lloyd and Reggie Wayne, stay close to the top of this week’s rankings, while the middle gets shaken up a bit thanks to some nicely played games by some guys and some poorly played ones by others.
So where does your favorite wide receiver rank this week? Is he still in the rankings, or has he dropped off? Has he moved up or moved down? Take a look and find out.
32. Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers
1 of 33
Last Week: Unranked
Ward may be getting up there in age, but he’s still a very valuable part of this team. He’s had some good games and continues to be an asset in the run game as a blocker, along with helping to take some of the heat off Mike Wallace.
31. Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints
2 of 33
Last Week: 31st
If you look at Moore’s scoring stats for the season—seven touchdowns—you can understand why he’s ranked here. He’s helped the Saints win games by getting the ball in the end zone and helps take some of the pressure off Marques Colston as well.
30. Mike Thomas, Jacksonville Jaguars
3 of 33
Last Week: 29th
Thomas has become a nice part of the Jaguars passing game and is a big reason why they are on the verge of winning their division. Can he help lead the Jaguars to a victory and division title this Sunday over the Colts?
29. Deion Branch, New England Patriots
4 of 33
Last Week: Unranked
Branch is really starting to put up some numbers and is becoming one of quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite targets. Following a good game against the Bears on Sunday, he’s poised to have another fine game against Green Bay this weekend.
28. Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins
5 of 33
Last Week: 25th
Bess continues to stay in the rankings this week and has been a solid go-to option when Brandon Marshall is unavailable. The Dolphins may be set at wide receiver with Bess and Marshall in the lineup next season.
27. Derrick Mason, Baltimore Ravens
6 of 33
Last Week: 32nd
It’s about time that Mason started to move up in these rankings. Mason has been a nice complement to Anquan Boldin and has six touchdowns to his credit. While he may be getting up there in age, he’s still a very valuable player at the position.
26. Braylon Edwards, New York Jets
7 of 33
Last Week: 24th
Edwards, like his team, continues to slide, but in terms of value to the Jets, Edwards is important. He is starting to get overshadowed a little bit by Santonio Holmes but still represents the best of the wide receiving corps for the Jets.
25. Jabar Gaffney, Denver Broncos
8 of 33
Last Week: 21st
Gaffney is part of the best part of the Denver Broncos and could help them keep up their solid passing game next season. He’s got a good future in Denver.
24. Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers
9 of 33
Last Week: 30th
Floyd came through for the Chargers on Sunday and has taken up the slack in their wide receiver corps. He’s definitely a valuable player on that team.
23. Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins
10 of 33
Last Week: 23rd
The Dolphins got back to winning, and Marshall was there to help out. Marshall should be much better in year two with the Dolphins as long as their quarterbacks get better.
22. Johnny Knox, Chicago Bears
11 of 33
Last Week: 17th
Knox continues to fall in the rankings after having two pretty unproductive weeks. He was on track for a 1,000-yard season, but it looks like he may miss that mark unless he finishes the season strong.
21. Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati Bengals
12 of 33
Last Week: 20th
The thinking is that the Bengals may be seeing some turnover in their coaching staff this offseason. Would that spell the end of Ochocinco’s days in Cincinnati?
20. Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
13 of 33
Last Week: 15th
Williams has to be considered for offensive rookie of the year honors after the kind of season that he has had. He’s a big reason for the success that the Bucs have had on offense this season and deserves some recognition for what he has done.
19. Wes Welker, New England Patriots
14 of 33
Last Week: 22nd
Welker had a very good game against the Bears this past Sunday and has shown the NFL that he’s one of the best in the league. It’s amazing how he came back from such a serious injury last season to help lead his team towards the playoffs.
18. Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens
15 of 33
Last Week: 15th
Boldin drops a little bit after having almost a full night off on Monday due to an injury. Hopefully he will be able to get healthy and keep on being the top dog at the receiver position in Baltimore.
17. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
16 of 33
Last Week: 16th
Fitzgerald had a decent day on Sunday and was utilized often in the game. If the Cardinals find a good quarterback, then Fitzgerald should get back to playing the way he is used to playing: outstanding.
16. Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
17 of 33
Last Week: 13th
Austin hasn’t had the kind of season that he might have had with Tony Romo in the lineup, but he’s still highly effective and a solid option at receiver.
15. Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills
18 of 33
Last Week: 12th
Johnson’s touchdown total has leveled off since he started out with such strong numbers in that category, but he’s still racking up the yards and remains the most reliable receiver in Buffalo. What a nice season for someone who came out of nowhere.
14. Santana Moss, Washington Redskins
19 of 33
Last Week: 18th
Moss moves up in the rankings due to his solid performance this Sunday and continues to be quarterback Donovan McNabb’s favorite target in the passing game.
13. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
20 of 33
Last Week: 11th
Colston put on a good show this Sunday against the Rams and is the top target for quarterback Drew Brees. Hopefully the two of them will be able to get together and continue their drive towards a playoff berth.
12. Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
21 of 33
Last Week: Unranked
Nicks storms back into our poll after coming back from an injury and having a pretty nice game on Monday night. Can Nicks continue to climb up the rankings and be one of the top 10 receivers in the NFL? At the rate he is going, he should be able to do that.
11. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
22 of 33
Last Week: 10th
Maclin’s numbers dipped a little bit thanks to the big night that DeSean Jackson had, but he’s productive and helps give the Eagles a solid one-two punch in the receiving game. If you take Maclin away, there’s Jackson, and if you take Jackson away, there’s Maclin. They are a difficult duo to cover.
10. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
23 of 33
Last Week: 19th
Jackson roars up our rankings after having a huge game on Sunday night against the Cowboys. Jackson can have those kinds of games on a regular basis, and this makes him one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL.
9. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs
24 of 33
Last Week: 4th
Bowe slips after having a pretty rough game on Sunday. He still leads the NFL in touchdowns after this week, and when he gets his quarterback Matt Cassel back next week, he might add a few more to his total of 14.
8. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
25 of 33
Last Week: 9th
Wallace creeps up a little bit this week and has really been impressive this season. He looks like he will be the heir apparent to Hines Ward (although Ward did have a pretty impressive game Sunday himself) and could have some Pro Bowl seasons coming up as his career moves forward.
7. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
26 of 33
Last Week: 5th
Johnson slips a little bit this week after not having too big of a game on Sunday, but his value cannot be denied. He’s a big part of some of the good things the Lions have done this season and has a continuing bright future in Detroit.
6. Terrell Owens, Cincinnati Bengals
27 of 33
Last Week: 6th
Owens and the Bengals may not be winning games, but their passing attack hasn’t been too bad this season. Owens shows us that despite his age and past, he’s a very valuable receiver and certainly the most important in Cincinnati.
5. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
28 of 33
Last Week: 8th
Even though his team isn’t doing so hot, Johnson is still doing a lot to make his team competitive. He’s one of the best in the business and makes a big difference in every game.
4. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
29 of 33
Last Week: 7th
Wayne has had some nice games in the last two weeks and is helping his team stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. He has clearly emerged as quarterback Peyton Manning’s favorite target and is the most reliable receiver on the team.
3. Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers
30 of 33
Last Week: 2nd
The Packers didn’t get much production out of their passing game with quarterback Aaron Rodgers out of the lineup for a better part of their game against Detroit on Sunday. Still, Greg Jennings continues to be one of the most valuable at his position in an offense that passes the ball a lot.
2. Brandon Lloyd, Denver Broncos
31 of 33
Last Week: 3rd
Lloyd continues to be the top dog on offense for the Broncos, but changes are coming, so it will be interesting to see how he fares in 2011. He has had a great season though and has rekindled his career a bit in Denver.
1. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
32 of 33
Last Week: 1st
White remains in the top spot this week and will probably finish the year as the No. 1-ranked wide receiver. He does so much for the Falcons, and they clearly wouldn’t be in the position they are in right now without him.
Who Dropped Off?
33 of 33
Mike Williams, Seattle Seahawks
Mario Manningham, New York Giants
Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
