2011 NFL Mock Draft: How a Lockout Would Affect the Picks
There's more than a good chance there will be a lockout in the NFL next season.
If it happens, the draft will be much different in 2011 than ever before.
Juniors will be very hesitant to declare because of the uncertainty that they would get paid.
Here is a 2011 NFL Mock Draft projecting what it would look like if there was a lockout in the NFL next season (all seniors):
With The 1st Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Carolina Panthers Select...
1 of 32
Prince Amukamara, Cornerback, Nebraska
With no juniors, Amukamara becomes the undisputed best player in the draft. The Panthers could choose Jake Locker, but they most likely will give Clausen more time.
With The 2nd Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Cincinnati Bengals Select...
2 of 32
Adrian Clayborn, Defensive End, Iowa
This selection works out perfectly. The Bengals get the best player available that doesn't play quarterback, the pick fills a need, and he has character issues.
With The 3rd Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Denver Broncos Select...
3 of 32
Allen Bailey, Defensive End, Miami
The Broncos select the freak Allen Bailey third overall. He obviously has the physical upside to justify the selection.
With The 4th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions Select...
4 of 32
Ryan Kerrigan, Defensive End, Purdue
In this point in the draft, Kerrigan would be the top player on the Lions board. Imagine a line with Vanden Bosch, Suh, Williams, and Kerrigan: wow.
With The 5th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Buffalo Bills Select...
5 of 32
Jake Locker, Quarterback, Washington
The Bills get the best quarterback in the draft despite being fifth overall. Locker could have been selected number one last year, so number five even with juniors wouldn't be a bad deal.
With The 6th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Arizona Cardinals Select...
6 of 32
Derek Sherrod, Offensive Tackle, Mississippi State
There is no way a tackle would go this high normally. With just the senior class entering, offensive tackles shoot up draft boards.
With The 7th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Dallas Cowboys Select...
7 of 32
Janoris Jenkins, Cornerback, Florida
The Dallas Cowboys fill a huge need by adding a cornerback in Jenkins. He could be the best player available at this point in the draft.
With The 8th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The San Francisco 49ers Select...
8 of 32
Von Miller, Outside Linebacker, Texas A&M
The 49ers need a lot of help in the pass rush department. In Miller, they get the best speed rusher in the entire draft class.
With The 9th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Tennessee Titans Select...
9 of 32
Stephen Paea, Defensive Tackle, Oregon State
The Titans aren't forced to reach to much with Paea. They get a run stopping tackle they desperately need.
With The 10th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Washington Redskins Select...
10 of 32
Mike Pouncey, Guard, Florida
The Redskins would love to add a running back or wide receiver, but there is no one with tenth overall value available. Upgrading a shaky interior line still works.
With The 11th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Houston Texans Select...
11 of 32
Ras-I Dowling, Cornerback, Virginia
The Texans get a major upgrade to their secondary with the selection of Dowling. The cornerback position is one of the least effected after losing the junior class.
With The 12th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Minnesota Vikings Select...
12 of 32
Christian Ponder, Quarterback, Florida State
Unlike other teams with needs at quarterback, the Vikings can't afford not to take one. Ponder is the best quarterback available.
With The 13th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Cleveland Browns Select...
13 of 32
Aaron Williams, Cornerback, Texas
With no play making receivers on the board, the Browns go cornerback in the first round for the second straight year. They'll have a great duo for years to come.
With The 14th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The New England Patriots Select...
14 of 32
Brandon Burton, Cornerback, Utah
The Patriots offense sure doesn't have a weakness right now. They add another cornerback to play opposite of rookie stud Devin McCourty.
With The 15th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Seattly Seahawks Select...
15 of 32
Greg Romeus, Defensive End, Pittsburgh
The former first round prospect gets back into consideration even after back surgery. A whole extra year to get back to 100 percent raises his stock.
With The 16th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The San Diego Chargers Select...
16 of 32
Cameron Jordan, Defensive End, California
The Chargers get solid value with Jordan in a thin draft. The selection fills a big need as well.
With The 17th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Indianapolis Colts Select...
17 of 32
Anthony Castonzo, Offensive Tackle, Boston College
The Colts don't lose much in a lockout draft with the selection of Castonzo. They still get their franchise left tackle.
With The 18th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Miami Dolphins Select...
18 of 32
Mikel Leshoure, Halfback, Illinois
Desperate for a running back, the Dolphins reach for the best senior back in Leshoure. If he blows up at the combine, this pick may not end up being a reach.
With The 19th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select...
19 of 32
Jeremy Beal, Defensive End, Oklahoma
The Buccaneers must address the defensive end position this off season. Beal gives them another young lineman for the team's bright future.
With The 20th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Green Bay Packers Select...
20 of 32
Gabe Carimi, Offensive Tackle, Wisconsin
The Packers can slide last year's first round selection Bryan Bulaga over to left tackle and pencil Carimi in on the right side. They would have an elite duo of tackles to protect Aaron Rodgers for years to come.
With The 21st Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The St. Louis Rams Select...
21 of 32
Bruce Carter, Outside Linebacker, North Carolina
With still no quality receivers available, the Rams look to improve their line backing core. Carter has amazing value at this point, but falls because he's a 4-3 outside linebacker.
With The 22th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Jacksonville Jaguars Select...
22 of 32
Rahim Moore, Free Safety, UCLA
The Jaguars need help at free safety, and Moore is one of the best players on the board. They finally make up for the Reggie Nelson failure.
With The 23rd Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Kansas City Chiefs Select...
23 of 32
Steve Wisniewski, Center, Penn State
Wisniewski is the best center prospect in this years draft class. There are bigger needs, but center is still a need and Wisniewski has great value.
With The 24th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Chicago Bears Select...
24 of 32
Demarcus Love, Offensive Tackle, Arkansas
The Bears attempt to upgrade the worst offensive line in the league with Love. He's raw, but has a very high ceiling.
With The 25th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The New York Giants Select...
25 of 32
Greg Jones, Outside Linebacker, Michigan State
The best player available fills a major need for the Giants. Outside linebacker is the team's biggest weakness.
With The 26th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The New York Jets Select...
26 of 32
Jared Crick, Defensive End, Nebraska
The Jets manage to find a defensive end to help give their front some push. Crick has been on fire as of late.
With The 27th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Baltimore Ravens Select...
27 of 32
Deunta Williams, Free Safety, North Carolina
Ed Reed almost retired last off season. If there would be a lockout next year, there's no way he wouldn't retire. Williams would be a solid replacement.
With The 28th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The New Orleans Saints Select...
28 of 32
Drake Nevis, Defensive Tackle, LSU
The Saints could use an upgrade at defensive tackle. Nevis is the best player available.
With The 29th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Philadelphia Eagles Select...
29 of 32
Nate Solder, Offensive Tackle, Colorado
The Eagles must add players to protect Michael Vick. Solder is the best offensive tackle left on the board.
With The 30th Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Pittsburgh Steelers Select...
30 of 32
Jimmy Smith, Cornerback, Colorado
The Steelers secondary without Troy Polamalu is a joke. They need to add some more talent at the cornerback position.
With The 31st Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The Atlanta Falcons Select...
31 of 32
Jabaal Sheard, Defensive End, Pittsburgh
This may look like a reach, but the risky, high upside defensive end sneaks into the first round. A whole extra year to train would help Sheard's chances of making it in the NFL.
With The 32nd Pick Of The 2011 NFL Draft, The New England Patriots Select...
32 of 32
Cameron Heyward, Defensive End, Ohio State
Heyward rounds out the first round filling a huge need for the Patriots. He will be thrown in where Richard Seymour just dominated.
