Fantasy Football Week 15 Waiver Wire: Pickups to Bolster Your Playoff Squadron

Tenny StegmanDec 14, 2010

QBs

Alex Smith:  San Francisco—Next three games: at San Diego, at St. Louis, and home v. Arizona

You’d have to be sitting on Carson Palmer or Ryan Fitzpatrick as your only other roster alternatives to pick this guy up and start him in your fantasy playoffs.

He had three passing scores and 255 yards in his first game back, facing the sixth worst fantasy pass defense.

Also, this week’s match up is not what I would call desirable.

RBs

Ryan Torain:  Washington Redskins—Next three games: at Dallas, at Jacksonville, home v. NY Giants

This is the type of pickup that could put you over the top in these final playoff weeks.

Torain rushed 24 times for 172 yards, bringing his season YPA average to a healthy 4.9. The Dallas match up isn’t that sweet (they allow the 12th fewest fantasy points to RBs), but I’d be pretty stoked to plug him into what is likely your Super Bowl (at least in non-moronically run leagues) in Week 16 v. the Jaguars' 11th most porous rush defense.

Tim Hightower:  Arizona Cardinals—Next three games:  at Carolina, home v. Dallas, at San Francisco

Please understand, before we proceed, that anyone can run against the hapless Denver Donkeys.   They have allowed the second most fantasy points to RBs this season.

Beanie Wells had the flu and was hurling before the game on Sunday and still managed to get in there for a few snaps.

This listing here is more about the Week 15 match up v. the third worst fantasy rush defense (Panthers).

Hightower would make do in a pinch.

Brian Westbrook:  San Francisco 49ers—Next three games:  at San Diego, at St. Louis, home v. Arizona

He was likely picked up a few weeks ago, but if not, you may want to eye-ball him if you are desperate for a flex play in the playoffs.

He was targeted six times by Alex Smith and busted off another long bomb.

He appears mired in a rush split with rookie Anthony Dixon, but Westy has always gotten it done catching balls out of the backfield.

The Chargers don’t allow many yards to opposing RBs, but they have allowed 10 rushing TDs which is tied for 10th most.

WRs

Kenny Britt:  Tennesee Titans—Next three games:  home v. Houston, at KC, at Indy

He was targeted eight times after immediately being returned to the starting line-up ahead of Randy Moss, who is suffering from a bad case of spoiled brat.

Though Britt ended with a modest four catches for 39 yards, he still looked like he had the spunk that had him rolling in the first half of 2010.

Get this guy a QB and he’s a Hakeem Nicks/Mike Wallace-type of a fantasy impact player.

Until then, he would make for a good pickup in deeper leagues that start 24 or more WRs.

Louis Murphy:  Oakland Raiders—Next three games:  home v. Denver, home v. Indy, at Kansas City

11 targets is what I need to start looking at waiver wire pickups.

Louis had that many in the Week 14 nail-biter in Jacksonville.

Jason Campbell had an uncommon (for him) 127.6 QB rating and looked wildly accurate out there.

With such a favorable schedule to close out the year, Louis Murphy is again worth considering in deeper leagues as a flex or WR3 option.
