Tashard Choice: Michael Vick Autograph Is Just Plain Weird

Chris TrapassoDec 13, 2010

Tashard Choice is a backup tailback for the Dallas Cowboys, and after their 30-27 loss to the rival Philadelphia Eagles, Tashard made a very odd choice as the players converged on the field to shake hands.

He brought his white gloves to opposing quarterback Michael Vick and got his autograph.

Huh?

If you're a practice-squad guy, or someone who plays a small role on an opposing team, I'm OK with an autograph, but someone like Choice who's become an integral part of the Cowboys offense? Not a brilliant idea.

Showing respect is fine, but to run up for an autograph? I'm not so sure.

Would you want your team's running back getting his gear signed by your biggest rival's starting quarterback? I surely wouldn't.

Losing to the Eagles never goes over well in Dallas, especially when it's at home and it ensures the Cowboys' first losing season since 2004.

Another factor that makes this situation iffy is the fact Vick torched the Cowboy's secondary in the second half. He's quickly become a hated player in Big D.

Choice is fighting for time on the field and this move could demonstrate to Dallas coaches that his mind is not totally focused on the task at hand, although he's played well of late.

Choice has since told the media that he got the autograph for his young nephew who is a Vick fan.

Alright, that's understandable.

But the smarter idea would have been to get the signature off the field, in the locker room, or even before the game.

Doing it at midfield with a cameraman right in your face looks somewhat demeaning to the 4-9 Cowboys.

Did any Eagles' get Jason Witten's autograph? What about Jay Ratliff or DeMarcus Ware? Miles Austin?

No.

It's not the worst thing in the world, but Choice definitely made a poor decision.
