Snow Day: Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants Battle Tonight In...DETROIT!?

Andrew J. KearneyDec 13, 2010

A game between the New York "football" Giants and Minnesota Vikings was cancelled in Minnesota on Sunday.

This much, only to be rescheduled for this evening in Detroit of all places. The 20 inches of snow in Minnesota forced the Metrodome's roof to collapse and start to cave in. In viewing the exclusive FOX video, which can be found on YouTube, the footage is shocking as it looks like something out of a movie.

Needless to say, someone is in Brett Favre's corner.

It was widely reported yesterday that Favre likely couldn't have played on Sunday, forcing his incredible consecutive games-played streak to end at 297.  Now, with an extra day to recover, Favre will likely play tonight in Detroit for the 298th time in a row.

For the Giants, this shortens next week's preparation for their NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.  The Vikings, who are supposed to be playing at home next Monday night against the Chicago Bears, will likely be accommodated once again.

As a bonus to fans in Minnesota, they will be refunded for this game. If they're able to make it to Detroit though, their ticket will be honored tonight.  Otherwise, this will be a first-come, first-serve basis at Ford Field. So, if you intend on going to this game, get there mighty early.

The inflatable roof of the Metrodome backfired and now the "dome" field advantage is taken away.  This, as well as other games to follow, could play an instrumental role in the NFC playoff picture even though the Vikes are out of it.

All that Minnesota wanted was to just get this season over as soon as possible. That seems impossible at this point as another roadblock hinders them.

For now though, tonight's game in Detroit is very instrumental to the NFC East race more than anything.  After a hard-fought win in Dallas last night, the Eagles are hoping that Minnesota gives them a little help.
