Dream Match List: Vendetta: How They Should Be : Edition 1

Undisputed SaviourDec 11, 2010

Hey, Bleachers! This time I'm back with a list of dream matches, involving the top stars and most talented competitors in the business. I've somewhat assigned a kayfabe for all of the dream matches below, along with the average length of each match. What I have not done is decide a winner. I'll leave this to you guys. All of these matches would occur WITHOUT any of the restrictions faced today in the WWE today. Third article ready, let’s shoot. Here's five of my dream matches with superstars from any era. Please, enjoy!

1) Edge vs Chris Jericho – Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match For The World Heavyweight Championship

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

The promos for this match would write itself. Just imagine: both of these main-eventers in their very prime going at it in a match reputed for its epic rivalries. For this to play out successfully, both men would have to be heels, and would probably entail in both men engaging in several weeks of one-upsmanship games using heel tactics.

Think about it. The “King of TLC” versus the self-proclaimed “Best in the world” at what he does. They are known as two of the workhorses of the business, willing to do any gimmick-required spots and would undoubtedly put their all into this highly anticipated match.

I would give this match around 23 minutes and it would have to be one for the history books. Heels make these types of stories so intriguing, and I could imagine the psychology of these two deranged competitors going into a matchup such as this. Who would truly win this one? I’ll leave that up to the WWE, because this one actually has a chance of happening—though highly unlikely. But like the philosophy of the wrestling business states, “Never say never.”

2) The Rock vs John Cena – Singles Match

Ahh, yes. The controversial topic amongst many IWC members when debating dream matches. I would have to say that this match would in fact be a dream match—one for the ages. The People's Champ versus The Chain Gang Soldier. Everyone knows that these two megastars could talk the talk and they can walk the walk. The promos, especially this one, I would say would really—I mean, really—write itself.

The match itself would be incredible once it doesn’t follow the typical Cena match protocol. This of course, is when Cena gets his butt handed to him throughout the entire match, then does the "Cena moveset" and pulls out a win from nowhere. I would have this match clock in at around 18 minutes.

To get the crowd really going, I’d have several nearfalls and momentum shifts, topped off with great storytelling. The staredown alone at the beginning of the match would get everyone off their seats. Cool spot idea? Hmm... I could see Cena going in for the Five-Knuckle Shuffle. The crowd is hyped up, and out of nowhere, the Rock connects with a highly anticipated Rock Bottom, followed by a People’s Elbow, that in my opinion would be a VERY cool spot. Sending the crowd into hysteria makes for a memorable encounter, wouldn’t you say? Also, if the Rock can have a good match with Hogan at Wrestlemania 18, then who the hell is Cena!?

3) Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart – One-Hour Ironman Match

One word: epic. This match would go down as one for the ages.  A technically sound clinic, indeed, that would involve both athletes at the pinnacle of their career. Clearly Kurt Angle would play the heel role, while an eminent Bret Hart would play the face.

Imagine the magnitude of the promos alone leading up to a match of this stature. I could see video packages of both these men working out and carrying themselves to the limit to get prepared for this match-up. I cannot see Kurt Angle contest with Bret Hart unless, in his heart, he felt that he was really the better wrestler and therefore, would not dare tarnish the quality and the highly anticipated dream match that these two would contest in by pulling out every heel tactic in the book.

Therefore, he would play more of a heel who respects his opponent (Example: In the Angle-Lesnar bout at WM19, the match was more about being the better athlete and Kurt Angle hardly resorted to heel tactics, and after the match both men showed respect by shaking hands followed by a warm embrace).

Both men would bring nothing short of their best, and I could see these two shake hands at the end of this match, which should be held in very high esteem by each and every single individual who knows what true wrestling is all about.

The Great Khali (Yeahhh!!!) vs Hornswoggle – Last Man Standing Match For The WWE Undisputed Championship

"Yes sir, we promised you a great main event here tonight." Right, random person from Family Guy?

Anywho... moving on.

4) Rated RKO vs The Brothers Of Destruction vs D-Generation X –Tag Team Elimination Match For The Unified Tag Team Championship

This has “Armageddon” written all over it. All of these men would definitely have to be in the prime of their individual careers. What makes a tag team elimination match really good? I would have to go with unpredictability and some hard-hitting action that could send the crowd more and more nuts as each minute goes by. Think of the possibilities of the kinds of spots this match could include.

This is how I perceive such a match to be built up – every team has just reached a breaking point. With each passing week, things get worse in an era that sees many brutalities go down amongst these six competitors. I’m talking about punts to the skull, con-chair-tos, invasion of the respective teams’ brands for revenge, breaking various announce tables with bodies, blood, steel steps to the head, the whole package.

I would generously assign 33 minutes to this matchup, with unexpected and surprising eliminations to have the crowd really on the edge of their seats. This match would be a wrestling match in the beginning, but every man would go out with a bang as it digresses from a wrestling match to a brawl. If you wanted revenge, you wouldn’t wrestle—you’d want to beat the hell out of the person, right? Graced with what little wrestling would be evident at the beginning of the match, I would top it off with the inclusion of chairs, crimson masks and of course, Triple H’s trusted companion, Mr. Sledgehammer.

5) CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan – Singles Match for The Intercontinental Championship

I could see the headline now: “Best IC bout In Recent Memory—Future HOF’ers Tear the House Down.” These men have a long history and it all began in Ring of Honor. The feud would have to be based around sheer rivalry, fierce competition and would be measuring stick for any and all future IC title contenders. Peep this: CM Punk, the reigning IC champion comes out to brag that he has demolished every competitor and contender for his precious title.

Enter: Daniel Bryan, who can more than back up what he has to say in the squared circle. With 18 minutes on the clock, the match would be innovative, fast-paced, dramatized by excellent promos (a la CM Punk) and defined by technical maneuvers and submission holds. Punk will have to resort to his rarely used Anaconda Vice and for some reason, I see this match ending with a rollup pin. After the match, the loser (doesn’t matter who) would be brought to his feet by a standing ovation to an ecstatic crowd and would gain the new-found respect of countless fans around the world. Truly, a dream match.

I seriously hope that I have brought to you some form of entertainment with this article. Bear in mind BR, this is only the first edition of  a long line of articles. There are plenty more dream matches to come your way. Thanks for the read, and let the comments flow on in. Thank you.
