NFL Picks Week 14: The Minnesota Vikings and Five Other Upsets That Will Happen

Patrick ClarkeDec 11, 2010

Week 14 features a number of tantalizing Sunday matchups with plenty of opportunity for upsets. Parity like the NFL has never seen before is here and likely will stay until the postseason begins in four weeks.

This makes upset picks that much easier. Without further ado, I present to you the top upset possibilities of the NFL weekend.

6. Cowboys Over Eagles

The Cowboys (4-8) are on a roll and are at home on Sunday night, hosting division rival Philadelphia (8-4). The way Dallas has been playing recently would suggest they win easy.

However, Michael Vick is a completely different monster than Peyton Manning. Still, the Cowboys' energized unit proves too much for the Eagles, who have struggled immensely in the red zone this season.

5. Rams Over Saints

The St. Louis Rams (6-6) are looking to take over control of the NFC West on Sunday when they visit the defending Super Bowl champion Saints (9-3) in the Superdome.

A win would keep the Rams in first place out west and have them sitting pretty for a first-round home playoff game as division winners.

The Saints, though, have won five straight and present a difficult challenge. But doesn't somebody have to step up from the NFC West?

4. Redskins Over Buccaneers

I hope this one happens for no other reason than that I'm attending this game with my lovely girlfriend.

As a native of the DC region, the Redskins (5-7) haven't exactly made me proud this season. But by knocking off the Bucs (7-5) at home, they could win back some pride lost last week at New York and build on something for next year.

Washington has rebounded from tough losses nicely this season and the Bucs have lost two straight. This one is more likely than you think.

3. Bills Over Browns

Does any team in the NFL do more with as little talent as the Buffalo Bills? Hardly.

Buffalo (2-10) has lost some heartbreakers this season and plays host to the Cleveland Browns (5-7) on Sunday afternoon.

Cleveland is just 2-4 on the road and Buffalo can chuck the football with the best of them. The Bills get the win in the battle of the best teams with the worst records.

2. Vikings Over Giants

Before the season began, this game was supposed to be one that had major NFC implications. Though Minnesota has disappointed this year, this game still has huge implications, just only for the G-men.

New York (8-4) is trailing Philadelphia in the NFC East and is visiting Minnesota (5-7) on Sunday in hopes of matching the Eagles or surpassing them for control of the division.

A rejuvenated Vikings squad, led by interim head coach Leslie Frasier, is on the up and up and a healthy dose of Adrian Peterson could be just what the doctor ordered for Minnesota as they run all over the Giants' playoff chances.

1. Dolphins Over Jets

The NFL's best road team all season long is just that this weekend, on the road. The Miami Dolphins (6-6) take their talents to New York to play the division rival Jets (9-3).

Miami's 5-1 road mark is as impressive as it gets and the Jets have lost two of their three at home this season.

The Dolphins desperately need a win to keep alive their playoff hopes and they'll get just that on Sunday when a Mark Sanchez fourth-quarter rally comes up short in the Big Apple.
