Lesnar and Couture: Battle of the Titans
Since the days of Mythology and the battles of the gods, has there ever been this much of an uproar and excitement?
Indeed some will argue that Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture are both "gods" of wrestling and represent the youth and maturity of the sport meeting for this one title match.
And now Dana White, the genius who was the force in bringing MMA from the darkness into the spotlight and mainstreamed the sport, has brought these two titans together for a "Battle Royale" at UFC 91.
Randy has always had the prestigious look of a Caesar to me (if only he had a garland of olive leafs atop his head rather than a cap), and I suppose it would not be stretching the truth too much to compare Brock to a thirty year old Hercules with his muscular build and chiseled body.
Not only do we have the equivalent of the gods of mythology, each is married to a wrestling goddess.
For Randy there is his lovely wife Kim who is trying to assert herself in women's MMA and has proved her dedication to the sport by gutting out a three round fight with her jaw broken in two places.
Brock's wife Rena was called "Sable" in her WWE days as a diva of the sport and is a pin-up playmate whose picture is still adorning many young men's walls. A tall blond and shapely match for Brock who was said on ESPN to be like two men combined, because of his great size, strength and ability.
For two couples, this is a lot of star power and presence for a single title match. There is an element of something for everyone in this event.
Let's just hope that Kim and Rena are not seated too closely together on the night of the fight.
And predicting the winner for this one?
I know my preference would be the aged and much tested veteran Randy Couture; but will he actually be able to win another UFC Heavyweight title?
Only Zeus could know the answer to that!
