NFL Picks Week 14: Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders and Teams Who Could Upset

Brandon BeckerDec 10, 2010

Week 14 is officially underway with the Indianapolis-Tennessee game in the books. Last week's games featured matchups among the NFL's best teams.

While this week's games don't have as many heavyweight fights on the card, there still are some intriguing games with some upsets brewing.

The playoff picture is starting to become clearer as each week passes and this is the time of the year where playoff hopes are starting to get dashed. Teams that have no playoff hopes can now turn their focus to playing spoiler the rest of the year.

Some of these teams are in the playoff hunt still, while some are ready for the 2011 NFL Draft.

Here are the teams that are most likely to shake up the NFL world by upsetting a favored opponent.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns are slight underdogs heading into Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, despite having three more wins than Buffalo.

Jake Delhomme is slated to start his third consecutive game for the Browns, trying to improve his record to 3-0 since being reinserted as the starter. The Bills have been a tough team to beat this season regardless of who they are playing, but they always seem to come up short in the end.

Peyton Hillis is poised to have a big game against the NFL's worst run defense. If Delhomme takes care of the ball—that's a big if—and the Browns ride Hillis' legs throughout the afternoon, they should take this one despite playing on the road.

Chicago Bears

Tom Brady and Co. will head to Chicago this weekend to take on the hot Bears. The Bears have won five straight—including a win over Michael Vick's Eagles—behind Jay Cutler playing smart football to go with the Bears' defense turning it into another gear.

It will be a daunting task to take down New England, but if anyone's going to do it right now why not Chicago? As already mentioned, they are playing terrific football across the board and have the luxury of playing the Patriots at home.

It also doesn't hurt that the Bears get the Pats after a Monday night game in which they throttled the NY Jets. Bill Belichick coached teams generally don't have let down games, but if they were to, this would be the situation for it after a big win over a division rival.

Houston Texans

Once again, the Texans are heading down the stretch of an NFL season on the outside of the playoffs. Houston's playoff hopes were all but crushed when they failed to close out Philadelphia when they had a chance.

Now the Texans will turn their focus towards a Baltimore team that is coming off of a physical battle in which they should have won. Houston tends to play best when expectations are low, so this is a spot at home where they could thrive.

The Ravens' defense isn't what it once was so Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson and Arian Foster will have their chances to make plays.

Expect a big effort from the Texans on Monday Night Football that will result in a closely contested game.

The Raiders shocked everyone with last week's impressive win over the San Diego Chargers on the road. Jason Campbell didn't do anything spectacular—throwing for only 117 yards—but he made timely plays when the Raiders needed him to step up.

Against Jacksonville, the Raiders will need a similar performance from Campbell.

The Jaguars are going to be highly motivated, trying to remain a game up on Peyton Manning and the Colts. This game has a chance to shape up to be one of the better ones of the weekend with two seemingly evenly matched teams going at it.

Both teams can run the ball well and neither get consistent play out of their quarterbacks. Jacksonville has had a lot go its way this season, including a hail mary to win against Houston.

The Jaguars' luck will run out this weekend against the Raiders. Expect another spirited performance from the Raider defense and an impressive performance from Darren McFadden on the ground to propel Oakland to a W.

Dallas Cowboys

Jason Garrett has done wonders since taking over the Cowboys. He's gone 3-1 since given the reins and if Roy Williams doesn't fumble on Thanksgiving Day against New Orleans, he's 4-0.

And it isn't as if Dallas is playing bad teams. Under Garrett, the Cowboys have wins over the NY Giants and Indianapolis Colts, along with the almost win against the Saints.

Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles are coming to town in a game where you can throw out the Cowboys' record and expect a heated battle. The Cowboys would love nothing more than to take down Vick in front of the home crowd.

It's going to be a tough task, but with the way they've been playing, they have a chance. Losing Dez Bryant is a big loss to the return game and is one less weapon for Jon Kitna, although the Eagles' secondary has struggled of late.

A win here would be another statement win for Garrett and may be enough to wrap up the job for next season.
