Is Floyd Mayweather Scared To Fight Andre Berto?
If Floyd Mayweather is scared to fight Manny Pacquiao right now, would he consider fighting Andre Berto? I've been trying to get in touch with him through Twitter or his website to get some answers from him.
Oh well, that's life. Mayweather can detour the Manny route and put his undefeated record up against Andre Berto.
When I watched the Berto vs. Freddy Hernandez fight recently, I was looking for the bout to go the distance. Hernandez, with a 29-1 record before the match, was no match for Berto.
In Berto's 26 wins against no losses, he knocked out 20 fighters. The WBC Welterweight champion was two pounds lighter than Hernandez, 145 to 147.
Hernandez had a sucker in his mouth when he was introduced as the challenger. He was a 9-1 underdog in the fight. He should have kept that sucker in his mouth so Berto could shove it down his throat. It was said that Hernandez ran his mouth to the media about Berto.
It was supposed to be an advantage for the taller and longer Hernandez. Remember that Antonio Margarito was taller with long arms, and we all know what happened in that fight.
What was interesting in the Berto-Hernandez fight was that Hernandez watched enough tape on Berto to try to avoid the uppercut, and he walked into the uppercut. And just like that, after a little more than two minutes into the first round, Berto walked away with another knockout.
Maybe Mayweather should've watched that Berto fight too. Berto may be added to the short list of opponents for Pacquiao.
Shane Mosley is next on the menu for Berto, if the old man still wants to dance. Berto, in his post fight interview, said he's done with the " appetizers." Now he's ready to eat the main course meals.
Mosley and Berto was supposed to fight earlier this year before disaster struck Berto's home country of Haiti. He went to assist in the relief efforts and left Mosley high and dry. Since Mosley wants to continue fighting, that would be a good start.
After Mosley, then comes Miguel Cotto and Pacquiao. Pacquiao is the main actor and Berto is like the stagehand. I don't see that matchup happening down the road.
It would be wise for Mayweather to stay out of the Andre Berto sweepstakes. If those two fought each other, someone will suffer their first professional loss.
Floyd is better off staying out of the boxing scene for a while. Those same guys who want Pacquiao might do an about face if Floyd challenges any of them to a match.
