Thoughts

  • At this point it appears like it’s going to be a weekly concern if Antonio Gates is able to play or not.  He looked good in Week 13, though, with six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.  If he plays, he’s a must-start option with 782 yards and 10 TDs on the season.  You’ll just have to keep checking the news and have an alternative in place.
  • It’s hard to argue with Jason Witten’s overall results and over the past two games he has 15 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown.  With Dez Bryant out and the Cowboys potentially trying to keep up with the Eagles on Sunday, Witten figures to play a big role in the passing game.
  • Jacob Tamme is listed as questionable for Thursday’s game, so make sure to check the news prior to the game before depending on him.  If he plays, he’s a solid option.
  • If Chris Cooley could only find the end zone, huh?  He has 60 receptions for 664 yards overall and 18 receptions for 201 yards over his last three games.  Of course, he has just two touchdowns on the season.  That suppresses his potential value some.
  • Over his last four games Dustin Keller has 12 receptions for 108 yards and no touchdowns.  The faith he had earned earlier in the season has all but evaporated at this point.  It’s impossible to trust him in most formats.
  • Aaron Hernandez or Rob Gronkowski?  Until we can answer that, both remain TE2s.
  • With Todd Heap injured, could Ed Dickson have a big day against a Texans defense that struggles against the pass?  It certainly is worth considering if you are in need of a sleeper option.
  • Zach Miller clearly is not healthy, which is what keeps him from the rankings.  Once he proves he will contribute, he’ll likely jump right back to being a TE1.

What are your thoughts on these rankings?  Who's too high?  Who's too low?
