£135 Million For Cristiano Ronaldo: What Would You Do?

Barney CorkhillSep 3, 2008

As everyone knows by now, Abu Dhabi United have taken control of Manchester City and have published a list of players they want to buy.

Basically, it is a list of the best players in the world.

No doubt the British record fee will be broken more than once in the next year by Man City. I wouldn't be surprised if Robinho's record transfer fee of £32.5 million was to be ADUG's smallest signing during their reign.

Somehow I can't see them doing what Abramovich did now and again, and sign small names like Steve Sidwell.

Top of Abu Dhabi's Christmas wish-list is bitter rivals Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo. All summer the talk was about Ronaldo going to the Bernabeu. That didn't go through in the end, but it was widely regarded that it was only a matter of time before Real Madrid got their man.

But now Manchester City have entered the fray, and Sir Alex Ferguson, David Gill, and Manchester United look set to have a big decision to make come January.

If they get an offer through from City of £135 million for Cristiano Ronaldo, do they take it?

On the one hand it is £135 million. That will boost the clubs finances hugely. Also, Ronaldo's wages will no longer have to be paid, which is another £140,000 a week that United get to keep.

On the other hand, they don't really need a financial boost, as they are pretty safe as it is. Also, it is Manchester City, their bitter rivals. The fans would not be happy with the sale of arguably their best player to their local rivals.

I think selling Ronaldo to Man City would also signify the beginning of United passing the torch to City as the best team in Manchester.

If indeed this sensational bid does become a reality come January, Ferguson will have one of the hardest decisions of his managerial career to make.

No doubt he has already started to think about it now.

So what would you do if you were Fergie? Would you sell Ronaldo to City if they offered £135 million, or would you reject them?
