Kyle Orton: What Does Coaching Change, Tim Tebow Talk Mean For Him

Chris TrapassoDec 8, 2010

Kyle Orton is having a career year.

He's on pace to throw for over 4,600 yards with 27 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

Usually, quarterback's can parlay those type of statistics into a long-term deals and extensions.

But Orton's situation is unique.

Although he's been one of the best signal-callers in the AFC this season, his team is 3-9, his head coach is out and he's got Tim Tebow as his backup with a whole city anxiously awaiting the full-time arrival of the college football deity.

There's no telling what might happen with Orton, a signal-caller who entered this year with question marks surrounding him and subsequently answered just about every one of them with outstanding play.

He could finish the year out strong, retain his job as starter and hope to build on a fantastic season in 2011 with a new coaching staff.

All would be fine and dandy.

Orton could give way to backups Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn for the remainder of the season, but ultimately win back the job next summer.

Fair enough.

Tebow could be traded... but probably won't be.

However, some unfortunate things could await Orton as well.

A new coaching staff could re-evaluate the entire team, including the quarterback position, a job that he's rightfully won, and name someone else the starter.

Since when does a 90-plus QB rating get you a seat on the bench?

The anticipation to see more of Tim Tebow is growing by the day, and the new coaches could fall in love with his intangibles and will to win and name him the Broncos starter.

That'd be a shame.

And that's not the worst of it.

He, too, could be traded. Yea, after the year he's put together for the Broncos, he could be a goner just as fast as Josh McDaniels.

Sure, they've only mustered three wins this year, but it's hardly been Orton's fault. He looks like a completely different quarterback from his Chicago days, exuding confidence and rifling the ball downfield with more zip than ever before.

Whatever happens to Orton, let's just hope he continues his resurgence, because he's come a very long way.
