For the New York Giants, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Frank GrayDec 8, 2010

It's the holiday season. In the words of the old song, "it's the most wonderful time of the year". To the fan of the New York Giants, it's such a wonderful time this year for a different reason. The Giants have had a roller coaster season with many ups and downs.

They have had just as many great moments as they have had terrible moments. The glories of the playoffs are just around the corner and the Giants are positioning themselves for a run at it. To be properly prepared for such a run, they need to be at full strength.

It had looked for a time as if they were going to be too hurt to win key games. They lost several key players: Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Shaun O'Hara, David Diehl and Shawn Andrews among others. Now, little by little, week by week, slowly but surely, they are getting healthy.

Reports are surfacing that David Diehl should be able to play as early as this week against the Vikings. Steve Smith may be able to play as well, barring any setbacks. Next week could see the return of Shawn Andrews and possibly Hakeem Nicks against the Eagles.

The following week could reveal a healthier Shaun O'Hara in Green Bay. That would be followed by a completely healthy team (although no one is really completely healthy this time of year) against the Redskins to close out the season. If they are getting healthy, they are getting stronger.

They are standing at 8-4 in the NFC and stand in a tie for first in their division. If the playoffs were to start today, they'd be a wild card team. The other potential playoff teams in the conference have remained healthy, for the most part, while the Giants are struggling to keep players free from injury.
