Tim Tebow: Why the NFL Desperately Needs Him To Start

Tom EdringtonDec 8, 2010

Tim Tebow.

The name itself has a life of its own.

So many possibilities: the Tim Tebow Corporation. The Tim Tebow Ministries. The Tim Tebow Traveling Salvation Show.

Seldom has there been a football player who commands such attention, such interest. Love him or not, people TALK about Tim Tebow.

But how's this for the next role for him: starting quarterback in the NFL. If not in Denver, then somewhere.

It's not like the National Football League is overflowing with starting quarterbacks who get the job done on a consistent basis.

The NFL has become much like major league baseball—pitching is king and some have it and some don't.

Must Read: Has This Season Proved Tim Tebow is a Legitimate NFL QB?

The NFL is a quarterback-driven league when it comes to success and just like its baseball brethren, there are the haves and have-nots in the NFL.

If you run down the list of playoff contenders, most will have a pretty accomplished and reliable man taking the snaps from center.

So there stands Tebow, a man waiting for the call. If not from the Broncos, from somebody.

Now is the time to find out if this young man can actually take command of a National Football League team.

And goodness knows the NFL needs some positives with all this chest-puffing baloney between the owners and the players union about the impending nightmare of no season in 2011.

The NFL can always use a stand-up guy.

Forget that ridiculous Ray Lewis commercial where he proclaims "women want me, men want to be me."

More want Tebow. Parents want Tebow calling on their daughter. You can trust him with your car keys or the combination to the vault at the Federal Reserve.

Someone out there should trust him to take snaps from center and make good decisions.

Any NFL teams need to increase its fan base?

Just check attendance figures.

Tebow is a man to put the helmet on.

Just read what he's had to say:

"I'm not better than anyone else just because I play football."

"I'm just another guy starting out."

"I know how important it is. I've been working really hard trying to get better every day. I'm trying to learn as much as possible."

So someone needs to snap the ball to Timmy.

Denver can for the next four weeks. After all, what's a 3-9 team with no head coach got to lose?

The Broncos need to find out about Tebow.

In fact, the NFL probably wouldn't mind either.
