Fantasy Football Week 14: First Look At Waiver Wire Pickups To Win Your Playoffs
Fantasy football players sure are an emotional bunch.
Last week I advised those of you with Peyton Hillis not to start the young Cleveland player against a tough Miami run defense. You would have thought I asked some people to walk on broken glass or play on the highway. Hillis' final line: 57 yards rushing, no touchdowns, 22 yards receiving, no touchdowns.
Live and learn I suppose.
It's still early in the week, but I want to go ahead and move on to this coming weekend. There are plenty of options available and I want to focus specifically on those with small numbers. For those of you who may have a bad matchup or have players who aren't producing, these could be options worth considering. Yardage-wise, you may not get a lot. But if you steal a touchdown or two, it could make all the difference.
Let's look at these 10 players. And remember it's still Monday, so no need to get emotional.
10. RB Isaac Redman, Pittsburgh
1 of 10
He only had four carries for 10 yards Sunday night against Baltimore, but also had two receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown. Fantasy owners love players like Redman who can get extra points as a receiver, and he could be an option with Cincinnati coming to town next.
9. RB Brian Westbrook, San Francisco
2 of 10
The former Eagles' great isn't what he used to be, but the 49ers will be facing a Seattle team that is allowing over 121 yards per game. San Francisco has only scored a total of 22 points in its last three games and Westbrook may give them a decent shot to snap out of that.
8. WR Davone Bess, Miami
3 of 10
Miami will have a tough enough time against the Jets and you have to expect Rex Ryan to clamp down on leading receiver Brandon Marshall. That leaves more opportunities for players like Anthony Fasano and Bess, the team's second-leading receiver. He has a team-high 61 catches for 667 yards and three touchdowns.
7. K David Buehler, Dallas
4 of 10
Earlier this season, I said no way. But if you watched the Cowboys' overtime win over Indianapolis, you saw Buehler hit from 30, 46 and 38 yards out. Looks to me like he could be gaining confidence, which is huge with the Eagles looming.
6. TE Tony Moeaki, Kansas City
5 of 10
If you have Dwayne Bowe, you probably cringed that a team finally found a way to clamp down on him. But take heart: That will give players like Moeaki more opportunities at catching passes. He's had over 40 yards receiving in four of his last six games.
5. Atlanta Defense
6 of 10
Why even mention this, you ask? Simply for this week's opponent: Carolina.
Carrying on...
4. QB Tarvaris Jackson, Minnesota
7 of 10
Interim coach Leslie Frazier said Brett Favre has a sprained shoulder, adding that he's cleared for this weekend if he's comfortable. If I have Favre on my team, I would consider nabbing Jackson as insurance.
3. RB Tashard Choice, Dallas
8 of 10
I'm as confused as anyone else as to why Dallas doesn't involve him more in the offense. He proved he was more than adequate Sunday, finishing with 19 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown. If he's still available, it won't hurt anything to grab him.
2. WR Sidney Rice, Minnesota
9 of 10
In just his third game back from a hip injury, Rice looked like his old self, finishing with five catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if the Giants and Bears account for him in the next two games when they face Minnesota.
1. TE Benjamin Watson, Cleveland
10 of 10
He used to be very steady and reliable when he played for New England. He wasn't one who'd get big yards, but I wasn't shocked when he scored once or twice a game. Watson had 10 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown last game, and Cleveland next travels to Buffalo.
