Tom Brady UGGs: Biggest Storyline Heading Into Monday Night Football, but Why?

Bleacher ReportDec 6, 2010

Tom Brady is less than 12 hours from playing the biggest game of his season and the word most are associating with the New England Patriots quarterback has nothing to do with football.

With the Patriots hosting the New York Jets tonight in what is by all accounts the AFC East championship game, the world doesn't want to know about the New England game plan or what changes Brady and the Patriots offense will make after losing to the Jets earlier in the season. The world doesn't care about the injury report or whether or not the absence of Randy Moss from this contest will benefit New England or New York.

Nope. They all want to talk about UGGs.

News broke this past week about Brady being the newest face of UGG Australia and anyone that has an opinion can't help themselves from poking fun at the New England quarterback.

UGG, of course, is known throughout the United States for being a brand the ladies love to wear. Their patented tan and reportedly comfortable boots have been edited into photos of Brady on the field time and again.

As if last week's reports of Brady being seen leaving a hair restoration clinic weren't enough, the world has now jumped on the quarterback for his newest endorsement deal.

As a partial fan, I have to wonder: Who cares?

I have never been one to worry about anything a professional athlete does when outside the lines. And why should I?

Don't get me wrong. When a professional athlete does something wrong or is caught breaking the law, I tend to form an opinion. But when it comes to an athlete's politics, taste or [in this case]  endorsement choice, why should I care? I follow football because I like the game. I watch, read, listen and think about all sports because I enjoy those games too. To me, the players are just the pieces in the chess match. And what those pieces do when the match is over, is of absolutely no interest to me.

So, to Tom Brady, I say: Wear what you want. Endorse what you want. Undergo hair restoration therapy. I don’t really care.

Just entertain me when you’re on the football field.
