Tom Brady: Why He's Already Won the NFL MVP Even If He Loses To New York Jets
Tom Brady will lead the New England Patriots into a huge division rivalry game against the New York Jets tonight on Monday Night Football.
Brady has been having an amazing season and is one of the leading MVP candidates and looks like he's well on his way to winning the award. The Patriots lost to the Jets earlier this year but even if Brady gets swept by Mark Sanchez and company, he will still win the award and here are 10 reasons why.
Any thoughts or comments? Make sure you leave them below.
No. 10: Loved By the Media
1 of 10
It's no secret that Tom Brady is a media darling.
He's always doing media, he's always friendly with the media and every member of the press loves to talk to him. He's a master at dealing with the media and you need to remember that it's the media that votes on the award.
Him being close with the media will play in some people's minds when they're casting their ballots.
No. 9: No Depth in Candidate Pool
2 of 10
For a good while, there was plenty of depth in the candidate pool for MVP, now it seems like it's a two horse race.
It's up to Tom Brady and Michael Vick at this point and when you look at the two, Brady looks like the better choice. Vick has missed time while Brady has not and on top of that, Brady has better stats for the most part than Vick in the passing game.
The other candidates like Philip Rivers have started to tail off while players like Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers lay on the outside of the race. Ryan deserves more hype for the award but he hasn't gotten it as of late. Maybe another big win will help get him some attention.
No. 8: Playing Injured
3 of 10
Tom Brady has been playing extremely well this year and he's been doing it with some nagging injuries.
Brady is currently dealing with foot and shoulder injuries and they've been keeping him out of practice at times this season. He'll never admit that it's bothering him and with the secret nature of the Patriots, that's not a surprise.
There's something to be said for playing at the level he's playing at despite being held out of practices.
No. 7: No Randy, No Problem
4 of 10
Randy Moss was a huge part of New England's offense when he was a member of the Patriots and when he left, a lot of people thought the Patriots wouldn't be the same.
Well that certainly didn't happen and if anything, the Patriots are running much more smoothly on offense without Moss in the lineup. Moss was causing trouble behind the scenes and with the media and now New England has the feel of those old Super Bowl winning teams.
Tom Brady has this team running like a well-oiled machine on offense right now.
No. 6: Young, Inexperiened Defense
5 of 10
Right now, no one's talking about it, but New England doesn't have a very good defense.
Coming into tonight's game, New England is 32nd in total defense. The teams worse than the Patriots? There were none. The Patriots have the worst defense in the league as rookie after rookie has to start on gameday.
Despite that, Tom Brady has helped lead this team to one of the best records in the league.
No. 5: Consistent Winning
6 of 10
The New England Patriots had a lot of questions around them, especially on defense this year yet the Patriots just keep finding ways to win.
New England has won eight of the last nine games and is 9-2 on the season. The Patriots have been pretty consistent minus the loss against Cleveland this year and there's something to be said for a team constantly showing up to play.
Tom Brady is a big part of that seeing as he's the unquestioned leader of that team.
No. 4: No Name Talent
7 of 10
A lot of the guys that Tom Brady are using to help lead the Patriots to victories aren't exactly household names.
The most notable is Wes Welker but he's not a number one wideout for most teams and is born to be a slot receiver. Other than that there's guys like Danny Woodhead and BenJarvis Green-Ellis in the backfield and young players like Aaron Hernandez and Brandon Tate for Brady to throw to.
Yet, Brady's having a great year. Not many players could do that.
No. 3: High Profile Wins
8 of 10
This year, New England has not only been winning, but beating good teams along the way.
The Patriots have beaten Baltimore, San Diego (regardless of the record the Chargers are a dangerous team), Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Those are no small feats and it makes New England one of the favorites going into the postseason.
New England has been tested and is pretty good in those big games.
No. 2: Peyton Manning's Struggles
9 of 10
For a good bit of time, it looked like Peyton Manning was the frontrunner for the MVP award.
Manning was playing so well with so many injuries around him that it was hard to pick against him for the award. However, the past couple of games, Manning has thrown so many picks and the Colts have been losing that he's pretty much fallen out of consideration for the award.
Manning's struggle has given Brady a lot more votes when people go to cast the ballot at the end of the year.
No. 1: Efficiency
10 of 10
Tom Brady is having one of the best seasons of any quarterback this year.
He's first in quarterback rating, he's fourth in completion percentage, 12th in passing yards and fourth in touchdowns. Not only that, but he has four interceptions on the season. It's a great season and when you consider who he's throwing to, it's even more impressive.
I think those stats tell the story as to why Brady should be the MVP.
