Boxing Fear: Evander Holyfield Will One Day Be Killed in the Squared Circle

Colin LinneweberDec 2, 2010

Former four-time heavyweight champion Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield is scheduled to fight a ball of fat named Brian Nielsen on March 5, 2011 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The delusional and irrational Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) remains staunch in his contention that he will again become the undisputed heavyweight king.

“My goal is to be the undisputed world champion one more time before I let it go. Once I do that, I sit down,” said Holyfield, 48. “And until I do that, I continue to fight.”

Holyfield, also a past cruiserweight titlist who captured a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, is simultaneously destroying his legacy and health.

“The Real Deal” is a warrior and he deserves to be remembered as the legendary pugilist that he was in his heyday.

Unfortunately, Holyfield is now more decrepit than the entire cast of Golden Girls.

He should immediately relent and hang-up his gloves.

“Holyfield is a classic case of not letting go,” said Ed LaVache, the owner of the Boston Boxing Club in Allston. “For a lot of these guys, boxing is all they know and it’s the only way for them to make money. So, they keep fighting until the fight is lost in them.”

Holyfield, who has long been a rumored abuser of performance enhancing drugs, was banned in August 2005 by the New York State Athletic Commision due to his “diminishing skills.”

Pathetically, boxing is a rogue business and money is an even more sinister element in pugilism than it is in other sports.

Hence, Holyfield is still enabled to enter the ring.

At this juncture, Nielsen (64-2, 43 KOs), a grotesque physical specimen, may actually manage to trump the iconic Holyfield and further shame the fake “Real Deal.”

If Holyfield truly intends on battling until he again becomes undisputed world champion, he will never “sit down” and he will “continue to fight” until he is killed in the ring.
