NFL Fantasy Football Week 13 Sleepers: Brian Westbrook, Sidney Rice and More

Ryan LesterDec 2, 2010

Sometimes because of matchups you have to roll out less than ideal lineups, especially when your players are nicked up. That’s the nature of the beast. Sometimes you need a fantasy gem to be successful. Here are some of the under-the-radar players that could possibly pull out a win for you.

Derek Anderson, QB, Arizona Cardinals
It is not easy starting a quarterback with a 68.2 passer rating and a 52.8 completion percentage, but he was able to throw for 295 yards and a score when he faced St. Louis in the season opener. The Rams rank 23rd with 259.1 passing yards allowed per game.

Brian Westbrook, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Westy basically came off the street and rumbled for 136 yards and a touchdown. There’s little chance he touches those numbers against the Packers, but if you’re in a bind, there are worse options.Anthony Dixon is an option in deeper and/or touchdown heavy leagues.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are going nowhere fast, but J-Stew at least showed some semblance of his former self when he ran for 98 yards against the Browns. Mike Goodson had better numbers, but there should be plenty for both against Seattle’s 22nd-ranked run defense.

Sidney Rice, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Rice actually regressed last week, going from three catches for 56 yards to one catch for 20. Brett Favre has been a little better at home though. This is more of a gut call than anything, but I think Rice will have a solid showing against Buffalo, who is tied for 23rd with 20 passing touchdowns allowed.

Brian Hartline, WR, Miami Dolphins
With Brandon Marshall out, Hartline is a good bet to continue his recent hot streak. He’s averaged 82 yards the past four games. Cleveland ranks 20th with 250.6 passing yards allowed and tied for 21st with 19 passing touchdowns allowed.

Joel Dreessen, TE, Houston Texans
Dreessen was held to 15 yards last week, but managed to score in his second straight game. Houston and Philly figure to be involved in a shootout, meaning all hands on deck for the Texans. Dreessen had four catches for 106 yards and a score against the aggressive Jets defense. He could be very active against an aggressive Philly team.

Seattle Seahawks Defense
They aren’t conjuring up memories of the Super Bowl Shuffle Bears, but they have managed 26 sacks and 19 takeaways. Playing the Panthers at home makes them a perfect plug-and-play defense this week.
