Dan Gilbert's Crusade: Miami Heat Tampering Charges Reeks of Desperation

Tom EdringtonDec 2, 2010

Dan Gilbert should know better.

He needs to just let go. It's over, done with, finished.

LeBron James is gone, hired away by the Heat. It's over.

But it sounds like Dan Gilbert is doing what wealthy guys like to do. He's lawyering up. He's hired who knows how many lawyers to try and figure out if the Miami Heat can be hit with tampering charges for stealing away his best friend, er, LeBron James.

Forget the fact that LeBron and the rest of those over-compensated lads from Miami are paying a visit to Cleveland this evening.

Dan wants to know if he's been tampered with.

And it sounds like he's willing to spend whatever it takes to find out.

Desperation?

Call it what you want but aren't there already enough lawyers involved in the NBA? What the heck, the commissioner is a lawyer, hire him to see if there's been any tampering here.

Yes, there has been tampering.

Miami tampered with the hearts of Cleveland fans by signing James. The Heat ripped out those hearts and ran over them with a fleet of Hummers on South Beach.

Yes, they tampered by giving James what he wanted. They tampered with their own bank accounts by maxing them out with the payroll the Heat is carrying.

Call it whatever you want, just don't call any more lawyers.

"I'm over it," is what Gilbert has said for the record. "I'm really over it. That's the truth."

Oh really.

Something doesn't smell right in those Cavalier executive offices.

And somewhere in the midwest, some law firm is going absolutely giddy with joy, racking up those billable hours for Dan the Man.

So let them hack away, investigate the poop out of this one. Could it be secret meetings with Pat Riley, or perhaps Dwayne Wade and an unidentified entourage visited LeBron and took him out for a night on the town.

Sure as heck sounds like tampering, doesn't it?

The Heat can do some real tampering tonight on the court. Perhaps LeBron will go for 50 against his old team.

If he does, then Dan Gilbert can sue him for wanting to win.
